No changes to that order occurred until the next-to-Iast lap, when Sherman put a move on Laguna, moving up to fourth. The checkered flag came out on the next lap, Knight and Ford held on to first and second, while Sherman continued his charge and finished third, ahead of Noltz and Laguna. Knight's 7-1 scores were good for the overall, with Breniesen taking second with 2·6 finishes. Sherman's second-moto third combined with his first-moto sixth netted him third overall. Living in close by Lynchburg, Virginia, Powers definitely knows his way around Aetiontown, and it showed as he kept the pressure on Gibbs in moto two. After a disappointing third·place ride in the opening 125cc B moto, Powers came back and rode a strong race in moto two, rarely more than a few feet behind Gibbs throughout the moto. When the dust had settled, however, Gibbs had taken his fourth and final moto win. Powers netted second on the day in 125cc B action, while Brian Carlisle rounded out the top three. Valley Kawasaki rider Scott Muterspaugh was a very impressive first-time Pro-class winner, taking top honors in the 125cc A class. Muterspaugh put together two fine rides for a pair of moto wins to sweep the class over some pretty heavy hitters. The ever-fast Chad Newton held the early lead in moto one before throwing it away in a mudhole and then remounting to come in third. Chris Anstead took advantage of Newton's fall to take second in mota one, and then he came back to lead most of moto two, only to fall himself, giving Muterspaugh the break he needed. KB Motocross A Hard, Dazed Knight No Sharin' For Sheren By BRET ECKERT SACRAMENTO, CA, MAR. 27 Keith Knight, on a Roseville Cycie/Goodtimes Motorsports-backed Kawasaki, overcame a hard· luck midpack first·moto finish and prob· ably surprised even himself in the second moto to claim the overall 65cc Beginner-class win in the final round of KB Racing Promotions' Winter Motocross Series, sponsored by Racers Pit Shop, Apex Motorsports, Roseville Cycle and MC Concepts. Knight's win places him in a good position to earn a podium spot in the series. In moto one, KX-mounted Taylor Domschot snared the holeshot over series leaders T.J. Lorenz and Jim Breniesen, with a full gate of other capable 65cc Beginners following. Domschot set a good pace but faltered under Lorenz's pressure on lap two, dropping back to eighth. With clear sailing ahead, Lorenz put the hammer down on his KTM and sped off, with Breniesen, Buck Ford and Knight in tow. As usual in motocross, nothing is constant, and more position swapping continued on the third lap when Knight went down. He remounted in eighth. Domschot blazed back up to fifth, while Justin Devers fell to fourth. The eager riders continued pushing hard, but at the end of the moto it was a KTM finish, as Lorenz and Breniesen took the top two spots. Kawasaki riders Devers, Domschot and Stuart Luper rounded out the top five. Moto two looked likely to be a repeat of the first for Lorenz ,as he led the way into turn one. A slight miscue by Lorenz and the rest of the front-runners left them doing soil samples, and some new names squirted through, taking advantage. As it turned out, Knight and Ford benefited the most, coming through unscathed and with the early lead. Knight had ended up seventh in the first moto; Ford had finished 11th. Both were now in a position to make a run for it, as none of the top five from moto one were anywhere near them thls time out.
