The series boasts a new major sponsor this year: Husqvarna has come on board, joining the "big four" Japanese factories with generous support for all 12 rounds of the series. The day was dedicated to the memory of Dianne Kelly, who died in a house fire la t January. Dianne was the wife of Bremen MX owner King Kelly and the mother of local Pro rider Kyle Kelly. The 125cc Youth contest started with a bang, as Matt Howard wrestled the holeshot away from the mob in turn one. But at the end of the first lap, Rider Apparel/SYD Racingbacked Lyle was out in front. Lyle held on for the moto win, over Chad Minter and Howard. In the final moto, Lyle had to work his way through traffic, and in the final moments he was able to pass race leader Minter. Lyle won the class • n _ VII S lead, but Martin stayed smooth and fast, and he was first at the checkers. Overall, Martin had to settle for the runner-up slot, as his 3-1 was bested by Whitmire's 1-2 score. Martin retumed to win both the Over 30 and Over 25 classes over SYD teammate Mike Garrett. The 125cc C division was by far the largest class of the day, with 57 entries, and qualifiers had to be run to narrow the field enough for a single-row start. Capitol Cycles-backed Perry Thomas notched a runaway win in his qualifying heat and, after passing race leader Dale Ulrich in the final, Thomas emerged with a perfect score, over Ulrich. Two of Georgia's top 250cc Cclass riders have switched brands for the 2000 season: Tyler Morris seemed very happy with his new Freewheeling-backed Honda, as he roosted his way to a perfect score. 50 SHAFT: 1.
