until the final corner, where Thompson sud· denly pinned it and flew over the back of the berm and off the track. DeNuzzo went on for second, behind Valasek. Steve Slaney, Anthony Leimas and Andre Loseto rounded out the top five. Jeremy Kneisly led the 125cc Beginners briefly before Evan Currie overtook him. Soon there was a three-way battle for the lead, as Ryan Gray tried to move to the front. Meanwhile, Ronnie Raymond had smashed his way into fourth place, right behind the lead trio, Gray tagged a hay bale but somehow saved it, forcing Raymond to a different line; this only heated up the battle for third. Currie held the point, but Gray repeatedly tried to pass, pulling side by side with the leader over the six-pack jumps. Gray slipped underneath and took the lead as the white flag flew. Gray roosted on to take the win over Currie, with Brison Pederson coming in third after Raymond tasted turf on the last lap. Twin Air BROTHERS ~ ·W.LD CHAMPIONSHIPS Results Friday KAW 65 INVl1.. I. Monroe Off-Road Cycle Ranch Sattelmeier Meister of Georgia Trials By DAN BROWN MONROE, GA, MAR. 12 The Southeastern Trials Riders Association's 2000 season is under way. and round two was held at the Monroe Off-Road Cycle Ranch, in the woods and hills and creek across from the motocross track. Saturday's rain forced trials masters Jamie Gourley, Vaughn Cady and Gary Garrison to make some last-minute changes early Sunday morning to allow ror the slick conditions. They did a great job. as the scores turned out reasonably well in spite of the treacherous traction. The windy. sunny day wasn't quite long enough to dry things out, but it made for a beautiful day for riding. The terrain in Monroe consists mostly of a slick. rocky creek with some steep climbs along the banks, along with a few rocks and logs for good measure, Most of the logs appeared to be coated with some type of substance that seemed to resemble Teflon with a light coaling of grease, and the slippery creek rocks and mud proved a challenge, as more than a few riders had a splash. The veteran riders seemed to have the advantage in the slippery conditions, as experience and a steady hand prevailed over youthful enthusiasm in most classes. The 1998 champ, Brock Sattelmeier, handled the mud better than anyone, and he took the win over Mark Sturtevant, riding the difficult expert lines, The experienced Gary Holbert showed the way in the Advanced class. with Dan Brown (no spring chicken) matching him pointswise in the Sportsman A class. Tommy Barrios showed youngster Dustin Noval the way in the Sportsman B division, and newcomer Tony Kelley had a great ride, beating a huge class of Intermediate riders. Ellis Giddens nipped Don Trammel by one point to take the Novice win, but the Novice RENO, NEVADA TI CKETS ON SALE NOW! PRO RACING! Friday, March 31 Saturday, April 1 7:30 PM A ATEUR RACING!
