, l Los Angeles County Raceway C)_. Murphy masters the mud at CRC MX By GREG ROBERTSON ., I • PALJ"\DALE, CA, MAR. 5 What started out as an overcast day turned into a downpour, changing Los Angeles Coun- ty Raceway into a major mudbath. A few sprinkles fell during practice in the morning, and then, when the races started, so did the rain· and it didn't let~up. The adverse condi· tions didn't seem to bother Honda-mounted Corey Murphy, as he soldiered on to win both the 125cc and 250cc Novice classes during California Racing Club's Sunday motocross. I Los Angeles County Raceway: Corey Murphy was a two-class winner during CRC motocross action in Palmdale, California, riding to victory in the 125cc and 250cc Novice classes. Don't be roadkill, buy McGraw, tile king of the road in motorcycle insurance for California. The West's largest writer of motorcycle insurance. A rated by A.M. Best IPSIC·I. 25 year history Neil Chisholm and Murphy went at it right from the drop of the gate in the first 250cc Novice moto. Murphy was finally able to work his way around his fellow Honda rider on lap three, and he eventually pulled away for the win. Joe Schroeder ran in third place the entire race, ahead of Chris Pederson. Round two was a duplicate of the first. Murphy was all over Chisholm's back fender during the early stages before making his way into the top spot for a sweep of the class. Schroeder again slid his way home for third, over Pederson. In the first 125cc Novice moto, Chris Taylor absconded with the holeshot, followed by Murphy, c.J. Mahon and Chisholm. Both Taylor and Murphy went down in the wet sand on the opening lap and found themselves at the back of the pack. Mahon ran out front, with Andrew Cordos and Robert Clark both getting around Chisholm to run in second and third, respectively. Mahon was pulling away from the field as Chisholm fought his way back up into second place. By the halfway point, Murphy was all the way back up into fourth place and looked to be the fastest rider on the track. Murphy pushed Chisholm back to third and set out after Mahon. Time was on Mahon's side, and the fast-approaching Murphy ran out of it and ended up finishing three bike lengths behind him at the checkers. The 125cc Novice class was the last race on the schedule, and by this time a good portion of the sandy circuit was under water. This didn't seem to phase Murphy, though; he just reeled off the second-moto holeshot on his Pit Pro/Dick Allen/Noleen/ J-Jones/N -Stylebacked CR 125 and paddled quicker than everyone else, going wire to wire for the win. Taylor had a much better ride in the second round, going J 0-2 for fifth overall, behind Mahon (1-3), Chisholm (4-5) and Clark (3-8). in the business. McGraw offers rates as low as $79 a year.
