Shaun Trabert tangled with Gilliam in the first tum and ended up on the ground and in last place. Durrer ran out front for a lap and a half before Gilliam found some room to make the pass. The two front-runners were inseparable for the next few laps as they stayed just out of the reach of Bagge, in third. Durrer backed off slighUy on the final lap, allowing Gilliam the win. Bagge was third, still a safe distance ahead of Trabert. Round two was a duplicate of the first. with Durrer leading Gilliam and the others through the sweeping right-hand first turn. Durrer put a couple of seconds on Gilliam and was looking flawless on a track that was being perfectly watered by Mother Nature. At one point, Durrer landed off the side of a tabletop jump and ended up in the infield, but fortunately he had enough of a cushion over Gilliam to maintain his leader status. At the checkers, it was Our· rer and his Troy Lee Designs/Sunstar/Bellbacked CR 125 with five seconds to spare over Gilliam. Trabert kept Gilliam in his sights up until the white-flag lap, when his bike broke, handing third to Bagge. All was not lost for Trabert, though, as he returned on his new Honda to share moto wins with Bagge for the 250cc Intermediate-class overall honors. Robbie Dunham went 3-3 to top Jimmy Chamberlin for third. Keith Robinson showed the rest of the 7 - to g-year-old Super Pee Wee class just why he's sporting the CRC number-one plate on his Works Shocks-sponsored Cobra. as he easily walked away from the competition in both motos. Eric Kahler's 3-2 rides edged out the 2-3 of Polini-mounted Matthew Popp for second overall, with Kyle Prince and Taylor Kellstrom rounding out the top five. (Sw). M H/W S/SPT: I. Five riders were back-to-back winners on the two consecutive evenings: Washington's Landon Currier won the 50cc contest, Shawn Haberlock took the 60cc victory, Justin Jensen topped the 125s. Tyler Fick won the 80cc Open competition, and Scott Allen dominated the 250cc class. The Cobra-mounted Currier had little competition in his 50cc (4-8) rout. Currier collected holeshot honors on both Friday and Saturday evenings, then put huge ground on the competition. Glenn Prestholt, Heather Chris· tiansen and Thomas Nichols spent the entire eight laps in close quarters until Christiansen got around her male comrades and netted second, ahead of Prestholt, Nichols and Steele Angel-Davidson. .Currier returned in Friday's 60cc final. but this time he did not enjoy the same dominance as in his SOcc performance, as the crowd's favorite, Haberlock, scored a wire-to· wire win, trailed by Jacob Kannada, Jake Ponce, Currier and Jacob Wood. Currier and Haberlock came back on Saturday to convincingly win their respective classes, but perhaps both riders' biggest moments came in the winner's circle when each rider was asked by Heather Broderick Miss Ultracross - if he would trade his 4-foot trophy for a kiss. Both replied, ·Yes." Honda-mounted Justin Jensen scored a pair of 125cc Amateur wins, his Friday win coming after early leader Beau Bamburg crashed while tripling. Jensen then held the point position to finish ahead of Californian Nick Hines. Cody Richelderfer. Kevin Kannada and Ryan Rusley filled out the top five. On Saturday, Suzuki·mounted Bryan Thibedeau was well on his way to victory when his big-air antics went awry and the Washingtonian lost his advantage to Jensen, whose sweep would be finalized two laps later as he finished ahead of KTM rider Jason Loomis, Anthony Gerruti and Thibedeau, who remounted to salvage fourth in the 12-rider final. Tyler Fick checked out on his competition for his Friday night 80cc Open-class win, but the competition was much stiffer on Saturday, as Honda-mounted brothers James and OZARK, AL, FEB. 13 Yamaha-mounted Grady Hendrix posted a I-I sweep of the Over 40 class at round two of the Southeastern Motocross Series. The Bruhn Cycles rider moved into second place in the standings, behind Bascom, Florida's Larry McArthur. More than 125 riders turned out for the Panama City Toyota-sponsored event. Alter leading the first moto from start to finish, Hendrix had Tony Hardy's KX250 on his rear fender in heat two. Early in the race. Hen· drix went high in a tum and Hardy came in low. The pair collided and Hardy went down. Hendrix continued on for the win, ahead of McArthur. In Supermini racing, Shane Lusk, Cole Boutwell and Ben Fleetwood staged a threeway battle for first place. When the final checkered flag came out, Lusk had taken the overall, leading a Honda sweep of four out of the five top finishers. Boutwell had the only non-red machine in the winner's circle; he placed second on his Sports Center Kawasaki. Panama City, Florida's Kyle Hochstetler continued to dominate the 250cc B class, taking his second win of the series. Scott Frederickson led a Yamaha freight train into the next three places; Scott Duke came in third, ahead of Wayne Bailey. The 250cc C class was a close contest, with eight racers on the line, John Morton grabbed the overall, with YZ400 rider Clint Logwood finishing second and taking over the points lead. Beasley Honda's Chris Haver fell out of the top spot alter a sixth-place showing. The Pee Wee (4-6) class was a battle between KTM riders Gray Vinson and lack Bell. Vinson finished the day ahead of Bell, with series contenders Cole Thompson and Darrius Miller running third and fourth. Eufala, Alabama's Clint Stagner picked up the win in the 125cc o class, besting round-one winner Todd Abbott. Behind the two Yamaha riders was Honda-mounted Wes Tindall. 1:11 Results P/W (4-6): 1.
