Durrer won the drag race to the first tum in
moto one to lead Gilliam and Josh Bagge.
Shaun Trabert tangled with Gilliam in the first
tum and ended up on the ground and in last
place. Durrer ran out front for a lap and a half
before Gilliam found some room to make the
pass. The two front-runners were inseparable
for the next few laps as they stayed just out of
the reach of Bagge, in third. Durrer backed off
slighUy on the final lap, allowing Gilliam the
win. Bagge was third, still a safe distance
ahead of Trabert.
Round two was a duplicate of the first. with
Durrer leading Gilliam and the others through
the sweeping right-hand first turn. Durrer put a
couple of seconds on Gilliam and was looking
flawless on a track that was being perfectly
watered by Mother Nature. At one point, Durrer landed off the side of a tabletop jump and
ended up in the infield, but fortunately he had
enough of a cushion over Gilliam to maintain
his leader status. At the checkers, it was Our·
rer and his Troy Lee Designs/Sunstar/Bellbacked CR 125 with five seconds to spare over
Gilliam. Trabert kept Gilliam in his sights up
until the white-flag lap, when his bike broke,
handing third to Bagge.
All was not lost for Trabert, though, as he
returned on his new Honda to share moto wins
with Bagge for the 250cc Intermediate-class
overall honors. Robbie Dunham went 3-3 to
top Jimmy Chamberlin for third.
Keith Robinson showed the rest of the 7 - to
g-year-old Super Pee Wee class just why he's
sporting the CRC number-one plate on his
Works Shocks-sponsored Cobra. as he easily
walked away from the competition in both
motos. Eric Kahler's 3-2 rides edged out the
2-3 of Polini-mounted Matthew Popp for second overall, with Kyle Prince and Taylor Kellstrom rounding out the top five.
