Round 2: Vol usia Speedway Park

ound two of the Florida Flat Track
Series came to the banked halfmile of Vol usia Speedway Park, but
so did a quick rainstorm that stopped
the Amateur portion of the day. Sunshine and heavy winds, however,
helped prepare the track by five
o'clock for the Pro race.
For the second day in a row,
defending AMA Grand National
Champion Chris Carr pushed his
Harley-Davidson of Sacramento/
Phoenix/Big Valley Ford mounts to
two main wins.
Just fewer than 130 riders signed
in for the night race, with the 600cc
classes having over 40 entries in
each.
The 600cc Pro-Sport heats went to
Brian Vincent, Roger Lee Hayden,
Jason Spearin and Bob Weiss.
Vincent led the race into turn one
with Hayden, Weiss and Spearin hot
after him. The top four pulled away
then split into two pairs. At the
halfway mark, Hayden grabbed the
lead, but Paul Sanburn fell in turn

four.

backed Hayden grabbed the restart,
as Vincent and Weiss argued over
second. Spearin was a lonely fourth,
with Jason Goodwin and Gordon
Schopieray rounding out the top six.
The 600cc Experts were next up.
Corbin teammates Kenny Coolbeth
and Joe Kopp put on a spectacular
show, while Jason Fletcher, Mike
Hacker and Jeremy Thompson fought
over the last transfer. Kopp edged his
teammate for the win, with Hacker
slipping by Fletcher on the last lap.

Will Dew" finished second behind
Cerr In the 750cc Expert -
Schnabel ran away with the second
heat. Rich King pulled into a solid
second, and early leader Greg Tysor
held off Jeff Landrum for third.
The third heat was a runaway for
KK Racing/Karl [, Kim Klement·
backed Willie McCoy. There was a
heated race for second, involving
John Nickens, Paul Lynch and Steve
Beattie. Jaime Aguilar, Trenton Bai·
tey and Joe Eades joined the battle
by lap five.
At the checkered flag, it was Beattie leading Lynch to the main.
The last heat was another runaway. Carr cruised away from George
Richtmeyer, Paul Normandin and Tim
Eades. Eades blasted into second by
lap four and pulled away, while Richtmeyer held off Normandin,
Cory Roth and Phil Libhart
for the last transfer.
J.R. Schnabel got the
holeshot in the main, but by
lap two, Carr had the lead.
Kopp took second a lap
later and closed on Carr.
Despite a spirited charge,
Kopp came up just short.
Back in the pack, Schnabel
was under attack from
McCoy.
Lap six saw McCoy in
third, with Schnabel and
Cool beth nipping at his
heels. McCoy was able to
slip clear, as Schnabel held
off Coolbeth for fourth.

The last heat was a battle between
Mike Hacker and J.R. Schnabel, while
Geo Roeder and Bryan Bigelow
fought over third. Saddlemen/Lancaster H-D/Dodge Brothers/Cutting
Edge-backed Hacker held on for the
win over Schnabel, Roeder and
Bigelow.
Will Davis was the quickest off the
line in the main, with Hacker, Carr
and Schnabel behind. Carr took the
lead on lap three as he and Davis
pulled away. Hacker had his hands
full with Bigelow and Schnabel all
over him. Roeder, Lynch and King
were in a tight bunch close behind.
Carr and Davis finished in that order,
but Bigelow slipped by Hacker on the
last lap. Schnabel, Lynch, Roeder,
King, Beattie, Nickens. Tyer and Russell filled out the field.

Motors) took the two 250cc Pro-Sport
heats.
The main started off with Joe
Zydinsky, Vincent and Timmy
Mitchell leading into turn one. Zydinsky and Vincent pulled a small lead
over Mitchell, c.J. Beving and Greg
Archer. At the halfway mark, Brandon Laursen moved into third and
closed on the leaders. Vincent took
the lead on the white flag lap, but
Zydinsky was all over him. The leaders were overtaking a lal
