Smith pulled out a large lead, while Spearin moved into second, with Joe Zydinsky, Cheney, Weiss and Scooter Taniguchi packed lap, Bigelow got into turn one too hot and slid high. (Bigelow said later that he lost his brakes on the second lap.) Kopp, Hacker and Coolbeth all close behind. Spearin and Weiss pulled their bat- stormed by him. Bigelow scrapped his way back into third and caught Hacker, as tle for second away from the others. On the last turn of the last lap, Spearin slipped just enough to let Weiss claim second. Kopp scored the win. By DAVE HOENIG PHOTOS BY FLAT TRAK FOTOS "These guys have been down here all week getting their 750s dialed in: Dave [Burks] just got here today with ours and we spanked 'em!" said Joe Kopp after he led Corbin Racing teammate Kenny Cool beth into the victory circle during round four of the Florida Flat Track Series at Vol usia Speedway Park. Cool beth also gave the team a win in the 600cc Expert main. Michigan riders Bryan Smith and Brian Vincent took the Pro-Sport 600 and 250, respectively. More than 120 entries were filled out for the last half-mile of Bike Week. The 250cc Pro-Sport class was the smallest-in-numbers class, and they hit the track first. Dave Vincent, on his West MI DT Assn./Dennis Vincent-sponsored Honda, won the only heat before out dueling Smith for the main-event win. The two youngsters traded the lead several times, but it was Vincent leading the way at the end. Brandon Laursen got out of a scrap with Timmy Mitchell and Greg Archer to finish third. Archer was able to get by Mitchell for fourth. The 600cc Expert class was the largest of the night. There where 43 riders on hand and had to be divided • into four heats. Mike Hacker led the charge into turn one in the first heat, with J.R. Schnabel, Tony Souza and Kopp right behind him. Hacker held a safe lead on his Saddlemen/Lancaster HD/Dodge Brothers Rotax, until Kopp worked his way into second. Kopp charged into contention but could not dislodge Hacker from the lead. Schnabel took the last transfer. Steve Beattie put his Gardner Racing Rotax into the lead in the second heat over Donnie Steward and Geo Roeder. Despite Steward's efforts the final order was set. Greg Tysor led Paul Lynch and Kyle Long into the first turn of heat three. Lynch tried every way he could to get by the Continental Tire-backed Tysor, but just couldn't do it. Don Mullen got by Jose Aguilar then had to hold off Jason Fletcher and Phil Libhart for the last transfer. The last heat was all Coolbeth on his Corbin Racing/H-D of Missouri/Dave Burks Motorsports Woods-Rotax. A major war was going on well behind Coolbeth, where John Winsett Jr. was leading Jeremy Thompson and Tim Eades. The trio was soon joined by Joe Eades. He made several charges that had him in second place several times, but he would continually slip just enough to allow Winsett and Thompson back by Kopp pulled well away. On the eighth lap, Bigelow got into turn one too hot again and hit Hacker. The two went high and Coolbeth fourth. Saddlemen/Lancaster H-D/Dodge Brothers' Mike Hacker set fast time in the 750cc qualifying heats and sat on the pole for the first heat. Hacker shot took full advantage. Bigelow shook clear of Hacker and chased after Coolbeth. Bigelow came up just short as the Corbin teammates came home into the lead, never to be headed. Paul Lynch held a solid second, but there was a good race for the last transfer involving Varnes, Shaun Russell, Cool beth and Cory Roth. Coolbeth challenged Russell, and then he settled in the last transfer slot. Kopp got the holeshot in the second heat over Gary Rogers, Schnabel and Eades, and that would be the final finishing order, but Rogers surprisingly stayed glued to Kopp's rear wheel. Bryan Bigelow got the holeshot in the last heat on his USC Racing/Lancaster H-D-backed Harley. Roeder and Will Davis had a short battle over second, but the top four split up about equally. Bigelow easily won over Roeder, Davis and Steve Beattie. Kopp got the holeshot in the main, leading the pack ahead of Davis, him. Greg Tysor led off the main with Coolbeth and Beattie in close pursuit. At the halfway point, Tysor slipped just enough to let Coolbeth charge by him, and then Cool beth left them all behind. Tysor held on to second, but the Mike Hacker/Steve Beattie/Kopp battle was soon upon him. With two laps to go, Hacker cut under Tysor in turn one, and Tysor slid high, opening the flood gates. That mistake enabled both Hacker and Beattie to get by him, as well. He was able to get back down and hold Kopp back. On the last lap Kopp gave up fifth to Ken CoolHtiII31), ............
