The U.S. Suzuki/Southside Shore Motorsports·backed rider posted a fourmoto sweep of the 125 and 250cc Money classes. The event was round one of the Panama City Toyota Southeastern Motocross Series, and more than 150 riders from five slales and Canada turned out to compete on a well-groomed track that remained dust-free throughout the day. Kevin Knight put his Honda out front in the first 250 Money mota. laRusso was second. followed by Edward A-Z. Lee Spann fought over fourth with Leo Candidus. laRusso overcame a near fall at the halfway point and closed in on Knight with just two laps to go. laRusso used an inside line going into an uphill horseshoe tum to squeeze by Knight in midair. laRusso took the win over Knight. A-Z kept third. A-Z took the holeshot in the second moto, over LaRusso and Spann. Knight was caught off guard and came off the iine dead last. LaRusso horsepowered his way past A-Z on the first lap, with Spann following in second. Knight caught Spann by the third lap. He passed him over a fly-away jump. LaRusso rode unchallenged to the finish, over Knight and Spann. Ernie Thomas used the power of his fourstroke Yamaha to take the holeshot in the first Vet C moto, over Michael Hare. Rhett Peel came around the first turn dead last on his YZ125. Hare kept Thomas honest the entire distance. Mark Borger came in third. Peel was on the gas the entire moto, passing 10 riders on his way to fourth. Thomas took the point in the second race and never looked back. Randy Bevis withstood pressure from Borger the entire four laps for second. After another dismal start. Peel put a half-dozen 250s behind him to pick up another fourth in the 15-rider field. Fort Rucker aviators Chris Haver and Clint Logwood pulled a one-two punch in 250cc C racing. Hare led the first heat, followed by Bevis and Haver. Bevis moved out front when Hare fell. Logwood took the iead at the end of a long straightaway. Haver overtook Bevis through the whoops for second. Logwood had the win within his grasp when he stumbled in the last turn before the flag. Haver took the lead for the first time in the race with just 100 feet to go. The final tally read Haver, Logwood and Bevis. Hare ran ahead of Logwood and Mike Jones in race two. While closing down on the leader, Logwood's throttle stuck open on a high-speed straight. He avoided a crash but dropped to fourth. Hare stayed just ahead of Jones, Haver and Logwood. Jones put an aggressive pass on Hare over a double jump to take first. Hare held on for second. Haver (1-3) claimed the overall. Logwood (2-4) took second overall, ahead of Jones (6-1 ). 48 MARCH 15, 2000' division at round three of the AMA Southern Winter Challenge MX Series in Robert, Georgia. Honda jockey Daxin Hardage and Kawasaki pilot Chris Torrance settled into their groove as they tried to c.atch Mennenga. Intermediate Shane Doughty was knocking on Torrance's back door. Working his way through the pack, Derek Kemp sliced his KTM through a forest of riders to finish second in his class, behind Doughty. In mota two, rookie Pro Mennenga continued his incredible dominance of the Expert class as he pushed his way to the podium from holeshot to checkers.
