Two riders on the move were CR 125-mounted Leonard Kirschner and Kawasaki pilot Mike Cassell. Kirschner was fourth by halfway. with Cassell right on his tail in fifth. Caper continued steadily with the lead, pulling away from his competition at a rate of about a half-second per lap. Peterson slid past Whitfield and into second. As the mota entered the final stages, the battle for fourth heated up between Kirschner and Cassell. When the white flag came out, Caper was nine seconds out front, while Peterson rode all alone in second. At the checkers, Caper rolled in for a convincing mota win, Peterson loped across the line in second, and Whitfield fin· ished up in third. Kirschner faltered under the pressure, and Cassell was able to slide h.is KX250 underneath the Honda rider two turns from the finish line for fourth place. The start of the second mota was "deja vu all over again," as Caper ripped another holeshot. This time, Peterson wanted no part of the roost coming from the rear wheel of Whitfield's big Honda, and he pushed his Yamaha into second ahead of him. Cassell rode in fourth, while John Tookey had his KTM in fifth. Once again, Caper immediately began to separate himself from the pack. and he enjoyed a five-second lead by the fourth lap. Peterson rode strong in second, some four seconds in front of Whitfield, who held third. Cassell still rode in fourth, while Kirschner finally moved up to fifth after bailing off early in the mota. When the checkered flag came out. Caper was the first rider to see it, as he rode in for another easy mota win. Peterson finished another strong ride all alone in second, while Whitfield took another third. Just as in the first moto, Cassell came across the line in fourth, while Kirschner settled for fifth. With his perfect moto finishes, Caper took home the overall class victory on the day. Peterson earned the second-place brass, while Whitfield came in third. The top five was filled out by Cassell in fourth and Kirschner in fifth. Results 80 BEG: I. Jason Pipkin (Han): 2. C'YJUI1 Vemieu (Yam). 125 BEG: 1. G~ Jones (KTM): 2. JUsU'l Sixbery (Vam): 3.
