was also scored as round one of the AZ Motorsports AMX Arizona State Championship, making it doubly important for all AMX racers. Hamman's Thor/Maxima/Sunstarbacked Honda took him to the holeshot in the first 125cc Novice moto, chased by Justin Locke, Jason Lizarrage, Joe Ben Sheffield and the rest of the 14-rider field. Lizarrage couldn't maintain the pace of the front-runners and fell back. Sheffield was the first to go by, moving into third. Nate Ramsden moved into fourth after his pass on Lizarrage, and Ed Foedish grabbed fifth with his pass before the end of the first lap. Sheffield suffered a get-off on lap two that moved him back to ninth. Chris Pedersen also tasted soil, rejoining in last place. Ramsden took advantage of Sheffield's mistake and seized third. Making up for midpack starts were Eric Ramirez and Matt Madden, and by the end of lap two they were fifth and sixth, charging hard. With Hamman running comfortably in the lead on lap three, Locke and Ramsden were battling hard for second, and a big mistake let Foedish and Ramirez shoot by. On the whiteflag lap, Ramirez secured second with a pass on Foedish. At the checkers, it was Hamman with the easy win, Ramirez second and Foedish third. Ramsden recovered for fourth, Madden was fifth, and Locke hung on for sixth. Moto two started with Locke pulling a bike-length lead around the first turn. Tarrah Johnson was a surprising second, Ramirez was solid in third, and Hamman was fourth. Disaster struck the racers behind Hamman when the pack compressed too tightly on the inside line, setting off a bomb that tossed several racers to the ground. Ramsden's CR was on top of Lizarrage's YZ, Foedish's YZ was hooked to Tamra Madden's RM. Hamman wasted little time racing to the front of the pack, and he had the lead three-quarters of the way through the first lap. Johnson couldn't match the speed of Locke and Ramirez, and she fell back to fourth. With Locke hanging tough under the pressure from Ramirez, Lizzarrage recovered from the first-turn carnage and ended the first lap in fifth, under pressure from Matt Madden, who turned it up on the second lap and claimed fourth from Johnson. Ramirez put a nice pass on Locke during the third lap. The riders who crashed in the first-turn pileup charged to the front in the closing laps. Matt Madden passed Locke to take third. Foedish continued to pass riders on his charge toward the lead, but Hamman met the checkers first, locking up his overall with 1-1 scores. Ramirez came across second to finish with second overall. Madden was next across, scoring a fourth overall for his efforts.
