3D YEARS AGD... DECEMBER 9, 1975 Larry Roeseler flew his Husqvama across the cover of Issue #48 after winning the 1975 lightweight Desert number-one plate. Roeseler also won the District 37 ___';;;iiII Desert Defense Race in California City, California... Tony DiStefano (Suz) wrapped up the 1975 Trans-AMA Series with a win at Saddleback Park. Americans won six of the I a series races, but Roger DeCoster (Suz) wrapped up the series title... A.C. Bakken (Hus) carne away with the win at the Baja de Saddleback Off-Road Race at Saddleback Park on November 23 ... Spanish manufacturer Ossa took out an ad for its 250cc Super Pioneer dirt/street model, boasting '''76 performance at '74 prices". 2D YEARS AGD••• DECEMBER II, 19B5 t"I7!PI"'I'!"I'I"'!""". Associate Editor Kit Palmer was the cover man in this rendition 1;afJ"~.l,j'" of Issue #48, getting first-hand experience aboard former AMA Grand National Champion Steve Eklund's ATK 560 Superbikers machine. Palmer noted that the motor was "incredibly powerful" but that when pitched into a tum the bike seemed to have "a mind of its own..... A 22-year-old Dan Smith (Hus) won the 8arstow-to-Vegas Hare & Hound race on November 30... We took a look at the 1986 Kawasaki motorcycle lineup, which featured a few new machines, including the EX2S0 Ninja, Zl600 Eliminator and Voyager XII touring rig. 1U YEARS AGD... DECEMBER 13, 1995 While we blasted the ugly graphics on our cover 1996 Kawasaki KX250, we noted that the bike had a great motor, almost-perfect suspension and was a hot handler, ugly or not... European editor Alan Cathcart offered his thoughts on the Yamaha TRX850 after a riding impression of the same. The parallel twin was a hoot to ride, but it never made it stateside... We ran a two-page interview with NAS8 Champion Keith Pinkstaff... There was also a two-page feature on the Los Angeles-to-Barstow.to·las Vegas Dual Sport Ride, which was part of the AMA Suzuki National Trail Ride Series... Off-road legend Malcolm Smith put on a ride of his own, as well. The event was called the Malcolm Smith Dual Sport Ride, and was held in the San 8ernardino National Forest. Aprilia's New Superbike Going V4-ward While 72-degree vee engines are commonplace in Formula One racing, so far the Voxan is the only such motor in the two-wheeled sector. However, from 2007 onward that'll change, with the advent of the V-four Aprilla 10000c Superbike. Aprilia's V-four project. which was revealed in EuroFlle back in August as being under development, came about after Aprilia/Piaggio management concluded that only an all-new four-qllnder motorcycle had a chance to be competitive in World Superbike under the new 10000c rules, rather than a triple, as was also considered in order to capitalize on the development of the now-abortive RS3 MotoGP racer.
