Over The Hill Gang Motocross Rocetown 385 Billy McClain All the Way By CHRIS CUMBO ADELANTO, CA, NOV. 6 I n the first combined Over 30 moto, Intermediate rider-Eric Warrington got the jump at the start, ahead of Novice rider Russ Cronin and the rest of the pack. Warrington went wide around the first turn, letting the rear tire slide out but still keeping his weight forward to make the front wheel steer sharp left. Curt Bennett followed closely, going left, then right; he was all over Warrington. trying to find a chink in his armor. Silty McClain stayed in close proximity. When Bennett slid out of an off-camber inside rut, McClain snatched the 1 Yearl6 Issues-$9.95 2 Year/12 Issues-$18.00 One year (8 lslUHl. 2nd ca... e-dIi Dr Me1lco .nd.1I other foreign eountrin $21.15 IDS fUlMls). 1It cia•• aM .1"...11 rates n.n.bIe upon request. ~ second pOSition from the outside. Bennett stayed close for a lap and began to settle into the seat; he was worn out from his warring with Warrington. McClain was still riding off the seat when, at the fourth tabletop on the last lap, McClain held the inside right-hander and put on the block-pass for the moto-one win. The McClain-and-Warrington show was similar in moto two, except McClain made his passes earlier and was gone. Over 38 Novice rider Mark Davies tucked in behind Rodney Miller in mota one. After the first four tabletops, Davies was already in the Novice lead (behind a guest rider). "I had to roll the jumps," Davies said afterward. "On the third lap, I got him on the back step-up. It's frustrating when you're following someone who's not jumping. I sure don't want to take anyone out. I've had this crummy cold, too." In the second mota, Davies got a third-place start, right behind Mike Osenbagh, who got his best start in a long time. Davies won on the KTM 250. Over 45 Intermediate Jim Pierce continued to display his impressive cornering abilities on the sandy track, winning both motos over up-and-coming motocrosser Dan Townsend. After his return from his honeymoon in Hawaii, Over 45 Novice rider Reid "Wedding Bells" Franke jumped out in front of the pack and pulled a commanding lead over the other 12 riders. With the lead he had developed. he didn't have to bli12 the second monstrous tabletop. Franke rode smoothly and calculatingly until the hard-charging G-5 Motorsports-backed Randy Green pulled alongside. Green's cornering was the deciding factor in the race, as he battled with Murray Armstrong as the moto progressed. "1 came off the gate and went wide and tucked in third," Green said afterward. "I was up there, runnin' with the fast guys in that class." Although Armstrong tried to mount a charge on Green, problems hindered his performance in both matos, and he took a second overall, behind Green, who gave cornering tips to some of the support riders on this day. Franke blitzed the monstrous tabletops in mota two after garnering another holeshot. Over 30 Beginner Scott Pederson, Over 38 Beginner Ron Cronin, and Over 45 Beginner Gary Swank each topped their respective classes with I-I finishes. Swank noted that the track was physically demanding. "I was passing guys even in the gate ahead of me," Swank said, "but then I got burned out. I did four motos, two with the old-timers. My wife, Eileen, was there, and I wanted [0 do well." RESULTS 800.849.RACE schwantzschool.com 52 • SUZUKI. 14'!t!i Nil ' MibPiIH DECEMBER 7, 2005 • CYCLE NEWS KIDS SUP: I. Devin Green; 2.
