A $3000 cash purse was up (or grabs, and more than 300 riders representing eight states turned out. Race day was about as good as it gets: no mud, no dust, mild temperatures, and red-hot racing. A number of riders dominated their respective classes. WBR Suzuki/O'NeaIlFMFbacked Sipes was tops in this category and set a blistering pace in the A divisions. Loretta Lynn's Champion Stroupe did likewise in the 125cc Schoolboy and 125cc B classes on his Team Green mount. SunstarIVRM/Team Babbitt's Matt Shue ran away with the Over 25 division wins, and he also made the podium in the 250cc A class. Tommy Martin looked unbeatable in the Over 30 and Over 35 contests. Similar to the Johnson/Rogers debate, SYD teammates Matt Bell and Sean Cunningham matched wheels in the BSce (9-13) and (12-13) divisions. The Suzuki-mounted duo traded blows, shared moto wins, and came away with a class win apiece. The 65cc Modified and 65cc (7-9) contests featured close matches between Georgia's Colton Ford and North Carolina's Sean Shalvoy. The duo shared holeshots and moto wins. Ford's cool blue KTM was on top in the 7·9 contest, and Shalvoy's orange KTM was the winner in the Modified division. There were numerous first-place contenders in the 12Scc C class. Dunlop/West Georgia Powersports' Nathan Collins put his Suzuki on top via a 1-2 punch. He won the Fall Classic at Costa Mesa Speedway, never losing a race all night. It was a popular win with the riders, and they all ran out on the track to congratulate him afterward. It was a Scratch program: three rounds of racing, with the top 10 advancing to the two semis. Scoring was 4-3-2-1-0. Current National Champion Chris "The Kid" Manchester got things started by taking the win In the first heat race. The two-week layoff showed, as it took three tries at a start to get the racers settled down enough to go (our laps without tangling. Schwartz came out swinging In Yarrow's armor, but there was none to be found. Schwartz again put in an outstanding ride, and he had no trouble taking his second win of the night. Randy "The Rocket" DiFrancesco is realty starting to read the gates, and he did a great job as he outgated the field in the next heat and, in doing so, smashed Fisher's chances of a perfect score. The final heat of the second round saw Charlie "The Edge" Venegas get on track, taking the win. With two rounds in the books, two riders, Schwartz and Yarrow, had perfect scores. The finaJ round of heats saw the cream rise to the top, as Schwartz, Fisher and Yarrow ensured themselves spots the semis. Shawn "Mad Dog" McConnell took the final win and he, too, would have enough to move 00. A run- off for the final semi spot went to Buck Blair, as in winning rides in their heat races. The second round opened up with Yarrow raining on Manchester's hopes for a perfect score, as he got the gate and never looked Fisher following him home.
