lowing autumn winds, cold temperatures, falling rain, mudsoaked machines, adrenaline: This is what Woodland
Motocross Park is all about, and what somehow attracts riders
from allover the Northwest to race at this prestigious winteronly track nestled in the foothills of Woodland. Washington.
Given the option at the gate as to whether to run a regular
double-moto format or an extended single-mote format, most
of the classes chose the single-moto format. One of the few
classes that did not were the 50s. With the track crew cutting
off a lot of the track to make it easier on the smaller riders,
there was still muddy carnage when the gate dropped for the
fi...t mota olthe 50cc (4-6) and (7-8) classes.
In the first moto, it was Cody Herzog. Tristan Charbonneau,
Ryder Waite and Sennett Ferris jumping out into the lead
positions. The foursome battled through the mud before
Charbonneau disappeared. and then pulled over by the finish
line to whip off his mUd-spattered goggles. That left the lead to
Herzog, who actually seemed to like the slop, and after a lap his
only competition was Waite. The two raced around the course
for many laps before Waite lost control and flew into the loose
mud. 8y the time he got his bike up and going again. Herzog
had checked out. When the checkers came out, it was Herzog,
Waite and Charbonneau.
Conditions were a little drier in the second moto. much to
Charbonneau's liking. He railed around the course, keeping his
Cobra wide open. After a DNF in the first mota, Ferris was a
man on a mission and, together with Herzog, he hunted
Charbonneau like a hound dog. The trio went at it lap after lap,
never separating until near the end, when Charbonneau finally
got a little breathing room and took the checkered flag and the
win. Ferris took second, and Herzog was third.
Charbonneau (3-1) took the hard-fought overall win.
followed by Herzog (1-3). Waite (2-4). Landon Fisher (5-5) and
Alana Nuttman (6-6).
Meanwhile. Coleman 5teigmeir (I-I) won the 50cc (4-6)
class. Hunter Kaliloa (2-3) took second. and Taber Waite
(DN5-2) finished third.
Brad Frace has made quite a name out of himself in the
Northwest, and the reason why was obvious, as the speedy
Yamaha pilot stole the show in both the ascc Intermediate and
Supennini classes.
In the Intermediate class. Frace had Austin Ullrich to deal
with initially, but eventually Frace pulled away to take the win in
the single 12-lap moto. Ullrich took second, Devon Moore was
third, Noah Bailey was fourth and Mike Pontious finished fifth.
In the Supermini class, Frace had to once again battle against
Ullrich, but. just as in the Intermediate class, Frace prevailed.
Ullrich took runner-up hono.... followed by the KTM-mounted
Bailey in third, Moore in fourth and Eric Daining in fifth.
