Chowchilla Barnburner Fall Series Round 3: Chowchilla Fairgrounds Harrell Barrels to Barnburner Winl By KAREN GOULD CHOWCHilLA, CA, OCT. 9 D ound three of the 2005 Chowchilla Barnburner Fall Series I"brought out more than 120 riders to panidpate in 25 main events, including three money races. In addition to those money races, Wilson Motorspons sponsored the 25Dcc B event by awarding $1 SO in cash to the winners. jeff Gonzales took home the first-place plaque in the first race of the day, the Old-Timers (Over 40) event. Gonzales got the holeshot, followed by Doug Marino and Steve Eddings. and these three finished in that order. Big cheers could be heard when race five came out on the track, featuring four future flat-trackers of America riding 50cc motorcycles with training wheels. Little Colby Copp got off the line first, followed by Ryan Nunes and Devin Glenn. Young Cameron Gomes was riding carefully after flipping his bike in the heat race, in which he'd come into the comer too hot for the sharp turn he'd made. The race finished with Copp in front, followed by Nunes, Glenn and Gomes. The Powder Puff class included four fast young ladies. Wilson Motorspons riders Ashlynn Marino and Lindsey King placed first and second, respectively. Founeen riders competed in two heat races for front-row positions in the Open A event. Those who'd placed first in the heat races, Donnie Harrell and Brandon Bergen, were also the first into turn one in the main event. Behind them, the competition was stiff for the third spot. Chad Foster worked his way through the pack from ninth into third by lap two, while Chris Canepa also managed to wind his way into the front group on lap four. Canepa got by Foster on lap five. Crossing the finish line, it was Harrell, Bergen, Canepa, Foster and joey Meyer. Canepa and Foster had finished their heat races in second, while Meyer had finished sixth in his. Cousins Christian "Weasel" Hickman (who is sponsored by Chowchilla Awards and Diaz Motorsports) and D.J. Sharkey competed in several events. Hickman took the win in the Open Four-Stroke class. while Sharkey took the money in the IOOcc Youth class. Six riders lined up on the track for the Wilson Motorsportssponsored 2S0cc B event. joe's Towing/Clawson Motorspons' Justin Pen, Mota One's Michael Cantu, and Brandi Monasmith rode in first, second and third from start to finish. The Diaz Motorspons Barnburner Fall Series runs through December 17, with several non-points Sunday races also on the schedule.
