"The racers of the Dunlop/WERA National

weather, as temperatures at las Vegas Motor
Speedway hovered in the mid-90s for the fifth

rah Suzuki, overcame the holeshot of Ben
Thompson, on the Red Star Vamaha R6. Team
Velocity Racing, Advanced Kawasaki and Team
Eclipse battled for third during the opening
laps. Batey continued his charge during the first
hour, gaining a one-lap advantage over Team
Velocity and Red Star.
Eighty-fIVe minutes into the race, and after a
quick pit stop to change both tires and refuel,
Batey turned the Vesrah Suzuki over to John
Jacobi. However, after a few laps, jacobi had a
problem on the back stretch, as the engine died.
Quickly, jacobi began the long push back toward
the pits, while Red Star took the lead, with Team
Velocity second. Dalke Motorsports was on the

Blue Ridge Performance, on the 4&6 Racing
SV6S0, had a lock on the Ughtweight Superbike
class, running 13th overall.

another problem. This time the bike died across
from the pits, with Mark Junge on board. Junge
wanted to push it across the track. but the
officials made him wait (or the track truck. As
Team Velocity gained S5 seconds over Red Star
for the lead, the Vesrah crew was busy changing
the gas tank. The first time they stopped, it was
only a fuse; this time, the fuel pump had given
out. Dixie Mafia made the big push to fifth
overall and grabbed the lead in the Middleweight
Superstock class. Blue Ridge Performance held a
two-lap lead over MS Racing II.
During the final hour, Red Star lost its
engine and was out of the race. Advanced
Kawasaki made the big push to catch Team
Velocity for the overall and Heavyweight
Superstock victories but could not make up the
two-lap disadvantage. With steady riding, Bell's
Arnchu Racing took third overall and the
Heavyweight Superbike win. The two

I Speedway stayed in the mid-90s (or Sunday's event, with a slight breeze and clear air,
with no smoke from the local brush fires.
West Coast WERA hero Dale Kieffer wasted
no time charging to the front of the Open
Superstock final at the drop of the green nag.
Ben Thompson, who honed his riding skills on
the Alaskan tundra, ran second, with Mark Junge
in third. john Chen had his Suzuki in fourth, and
Michael Beck ran fifth. Thompson made it a
two-man battle to the end, but he just couldn't
get by Kieffer, who took the victory.
No matter where junge tried to pass, Chris
Siglin had him covered in the 600cc Expert
Superstock race. junge's teammate john jacobi
followed closely, with josh Herrin and David
Weber contesting fourth.
jacobi had a tougher time of it in the 7S0cc

"The key to our success is putting ourselves
in the poSition to win," said Chuck Ivey, owner
of (and rider for) the victorious Team Velocity
Racing Yamaha RI. "Seeing that we are on a
Superstock bike with that class' restrictions,
we have to ride hard, we try to make no
mistakes, and we try to ride consistent - just
