CentoDassi Has aVictor After four exhilarating legs in the Western Alps, Centopassi, an event for those who love to test the limits of their motorcycles and themselves on mountain roads and special stages, concluded on July 24 in Bardonecchia, Italy. Marco Tomassini, on a BMW R1200 GS, was the overall winner of the Competition class and took home the coveted first-place prize - a Ducati Multistrada 620 - with a total of 75 points acquired on the skills special stages and time checks along the way. In second place was Cesare Conti, on a BMW R I 100 GS, with 63 points, followed by Alessandro Severi, in third place with a total of 44 points, on the seat of a Ducati Multistrada 1000DS. In the Team Participation category, first place with 73 points went to the BMW Racing Team comprised of Tomassini, Conti and Stefano Tosi. In second place with 52 points was the Ema Team of Antonio Zingali, Attilio Pennisi and Michele Battiato, and in third place came the X One Perfonmer team of Renato Zocchi, Denis Terranova and Giuseppe Gelmini, with a total of 5 I points. Participants in both categories - Competition and Iron Biker - spent four days on some of the most exhilarating and challenging passes in the Western Alps. The participants departed from Nice and headed toward the beautiful mountains that surround it. On day one, participants passed by Gorges du Cians, Guillaumes, Col de la Cayolle, Barcellonette, Col du Vars, Guillestre, Col d'izoard, Brlancon, Col du Montgenevre and Cesana Torinese, arriving finally at Oulx. On the July 22, they departed Bardonecchia, then crossed the Col de I'Echelle, Briancon, l'Argentiere la Besse, Col du Vars, Jausiers, Col de la Bonette, Vinadio, Demonte, Elva, Col de Sampeyre, Colle dell'Agnello, Chateau Queyras and Col du Montgenevre, ending up in Cesana Torinese. On the July 23, participants swerved by Briancon, Col du Lautaret, Col du Galibier, Col du Telegraphe, Montvernier, Col du Chaussy, Col de la Madeleine, Bourg St. Maurice, Col de I'lseran, Lanslevillard, Col du Mont Cenis and Susa to return to Bardonecchia. The forth and final day wound through Susa, Col du Mont Cenis, Lanslebourg, Mcdane, Saint M. de Maurienne, Col du Mollare, Belleville, Col de la Croix de Fer, Alp d'Huez, Col de la Strenne, C1avans, Col du Lautaret, La Vachette and Col de L:Echelle, once again ending up in Bardonecchia. The awards ceremony took place at the Hotel Rive in Bardonecchia. The Ducati Multistrada 620 first prize was awarded to Tomassini by SuperG Olympic Champion Daniela Ceccarelli, guest of the event for the second consecutive year. The overall winner of the third edition of the Centopassi has expressed that he will place his prize in a charity auction to benefit the school founded in Dakar by the late Fabrizio Meani, who died last January during the Paris-Dakar Rally. The 150 participants of this year's event came from all corners of the globe, including Italy, France, Germany, United Kingdom, HoIland, Belgium, Switzerland, Austria, Luxemburg, Sweden, Norway, USA, South Africa and New Zealand, showing great enthusiasm for both the competitive class (Competition) as well as the more tourist class (Iron Biker).
