he 24th annual AMA/Air
Nautiques
Amateur
National Championships,
presented by Amsoil, at
Loretta Lynn's Ranch are
complete - but if the racing this year is
any indication, things are really just getting started. The event, and Amateur
T
motocross as a whole, continues to rise
at an incredible rate with more talented racers than ever. This year, nearly
23,000 entries tried to qualify for the
National, and 1386 of them made the
big show and battled for 33 titles.
As has been the case since the race's
inception 24 years ago, riders can only
race two classes at Loretta's - and winning two championships has proven to
be very tough. This year, just three riders completed the double title sweep
out of 33 classes: Yamaha's standout B
rider Josh Hill, 85cc (12-13) Honda
rider Justin Barcia and Vet Suzuki rider
Mike Katin. The rest of the riders, all
representing the best of the best in U.S.
Amateur motocross, were lucky to
even bag one title.
