In 2000, Cycle News Inc. established the Cycle News Fast Brain Award, presented each year to a scholar athlete based not only on his or her race performance but also on his or her record in the classroom. Just like on the track, the competition for the Fast Brain is stiff indeed, with only stu· dents earning grade point averages of ".0 or higher making the cut to qualify for this award. Brad Baker from Chehalis, Washington, was the recipient of the 2005 Cycle News Fast Brain Award. The 12-year-old Baker coupled his "_0 grade point average with a solid performance in both the 250cc OTX and 250cc Modified (four-stroke) classes. including a win in the TT.
