The Mini-Mota class. for bikes I SOcc or less, has always been popular with kids and adults alike, but new for 200S is the Mini Junior cI.... which gives racers 10 and younger a class of their own. Fathers. sons, daughters and even the occasional mom line the grids of the monthly races. which made scheduling a race on Father's Day a natural. Ever since Leonardo "Pucho" Bagnis first swung a leg over the all new and signifKalldy improved 200S Husqvamas, he's been a force to be reckoned with. The 4SOcc cI... is usually hotly contested, but Bagnis made it look like a walk in the park as he handily took the win over Two Brothers Raclng's Steve Drew. With the 450cc race handled, Pucho retired the bike to the GP Motorcycles transporter, as he'd be needing his mighty Husqvarna SMRS 10 for the Open class later In the day. Moto icon Micky Dymond. on his AIIAccess KTM. took the Open-class heat-race win, and he looked likely to do the same in the main event, riding smoothly out front. with Ilagnis trailing In second place. At. the halfway point, Dymond got a little "whiskey-throttle" coming off the dirt berm and slid sideways approaching the double lump. Dymond got the bike corrected and aimed back down the track. but thai: one small miscue was all it took for Bagnis to squeeze by and claim the lead. They would finish out the race in that order. with Bagnis collecting a big chunk of the Open Expert IOO-percent payback, as well as a generous contingency offered by Husqvama. Meanwhile. Joker Machine rider Justin Ross was quickly regaining ground after falling earlier in the race. Near the end of the final lap, Ross caught up to his off-track friend Cameron Welsh in the same dirt berm that had done Dymond in. Ross' KTM and Welsh's Yamaha came together right in the middle of the berm, and Welsh was forced over the top and off the !rack. Ross sprinted to the flag to claim third piace, while Welsh. who was now off the track in the rocks and weeds, kept the power on while shooting up a dirt embankment and launching spectacularly into the air. Welsh landed on the asphalt and rolled over the finish line holding on to the fourth spot. ahead of Drew. CRSllO-mounted Rick Pearce celebrated Grandpa's Day with a sixth-place finish. Mike Deloach entered the Intermediate race as the points leader, but a bizarre accident saw his Honda become locked onto the side of Chris Borgman's Yamaha over the tabletop jump. As Deloach jumped to his feet. he was shocked to see his bike leaving him behind as Borgman continued racing down the track, piloting two bikes at once! By the time Deloach caught up to and remounted his bike. he was dead last in 21th place, but he charged back to finish 15th. at Haul THlI' M1u R~, CAuFoIlNIA RuuLnI JUNI 19,2005 (ROUND 5) CrasHdup and tire spinning, Leonardo Bagnls used sklll and body English to control his Husqvarna SMR51 0 _ the ri.. where dirt Iransitions to pavement at raund five of the mARSI 3 8rothen/KTM Supennoto Series.
