MX West Summer Nights Series Round 7: Champion Speedway: Eager Escapes the Pack By ROBERT BEAUPRE CARSON CITY, NV, JULY 29 Oyan Eager left no doubt as to his status as the top Intermedil'ate rider at round seven of the MX West Summer Nights Series, taking decisive wins in the 12Scc Intermediate, 250c( Intermediate and Schoolboy Division Two ranks. Eager, who has been a top finisher throughout the Summer Nights Series, enjoyed comforuble leads at the end of many of his six motos, though he did face an especially sharp challenge from Johnny Vallerio in the first 12Scc moto. After gating in first and second, respectively, Eager and Vallerio left the pack behind to engage in a two-man duel for the win. However, although VaI!erio never left Eager any breathing room, Eager rode mistake-free to hold on to the win by a narrow margin over VaJlerio at the finish. The second I25cc mota saw another holeshot by Eager. but this time Vallerio was buried in the pack. preventing a replay of the first-moto scenark>. Eager soon stretched out his lead and rode to another victory. crossing the finish with a comfortable cushion. Vallerio charged back to score second on the night. and Andrew Valdez claimed third overall. Just ahead of the Intermediates, the I25cc Pro class featured some odd happenings throughout the evening. After grabbing the early lead in the first moto, Nick Baugh began haVing problems with his rear brake. But just as it appeared that second-placed rider Clint Martin was ready to pounce, he washed out the front end in a hairpin, leaving Baugh with a few seconds' advantage over Justin Enos. And despite completely losing the rear-brake lever midway through the race, Baugh managed to hold on for the win, ahead of Enos. The second mota unfolded with Baugh, back on the pace with a remounted lever, grabbing a slight advantage ahead of Martin in the early laps, only to wash out the from end himself just a turn away from where Martin had done so in the first outing. With that, Martin rode away with the win, leaving Baugh with second on the night. Baugh did, however, salvage his evening with a win in the 250cc class. In the Schoolboy Division One ranks, Beau Meier piloted his Suzuki to the overall win, leaving first-moto winner Mike Walker and early leader Chris Grant to grab second and third overall, respectively. Meier also posted a third-place finish in the 250cc Intermediate race. following Eager and second-placed rider Nate Vandennade to the finish. The highly competitive Pee Wee Privateer classes featured an impressive ride from Gavin Clouser, who powered his way to a victory in the Over 7 ranks. Caleb Fr.rnsden followed Clouser for second, and Ezra Calvillo scored third. Dawson Clifford earned his own victory in the SOcc (4-6) Privateer class, topping secondand third-place finishers Christian Anderson and Gaige Demars. RESULTS 50 (4-6) PRVTR: I. Dawson Clifford: 2.
