CASEY, IL, JUNE 11
ore than 160 partkipants were treated to
a challenging, well-groomed circuit as the
AMS Racing-sponsored American Historic Racing Motorcycle Association National Post-Vintage Motocross Series visited Lincoln Trail
Motosports for round six of the IS-race series.
Jeremy Brewington continued his winning
ways in the competitive Open Age Expert
class, earning victories in both motos.
Brewington turned some of the fastest laps
around the rugged LTM track, jeffrey
Beerbower and Don Lewis exchanged secondand third-place finishes, with Ohio's
Beerbower edging Lewis for the runner-up
position in the final results.
Brewington also had a dominant day in the
Ultima 125cc Expert class. He rocketed his
trusty Suzuki to a two-moto sweep over Mike
Mitrione.
Mark Thompson was untouchable in the
Over SO Intermediate class. The speedy Maico
rider quickly assumed the lead early in each
mota, eventually winning each race by a
comfortable margin. Kim Armstrong and Mike
Adams exchanged second-place rides, finishing
second and third, respectively, in the final
standings. Bruce Rounsaville and John
Rinkenberg rounded out the top fIVe.
Canadian Honda pilot Ron Harten made the
trek to hot and humid Casey a prosperous
M
journey as he had managed to win four motos
en route to claiming the top poSition in two
intermediate dasses.
Harten piloted his 1983 CR480 to the win
in a Honda sweep of the top four spots in the
hotly contested Ultima 500cc Intermediate
class. Dave Katzmeyer pressured Harten
during both motos but never managed to take
the top position from Harten. Patrick Dickman
posted consistent 3-3 motos to fill the third
position in the results.
Harten put in an equally impressive
perlonnance in the Ultima I25cc Intennediate
class. Bob Egan chased Harten throughout the
day but couldn't match his pace to the finish. Egan
did earn runner-up honors with his 2-2 scores.
The always fast Honda pilot Don Lewis
captured both motos in the highly competitive
Over 40 Expert class. Bob Speiss trnled Lewis
across the finish line each time. Beerbower,
jeffrey Clark and Kevin Kline rounded out the
top five finishers.
john Munich had a perfect I-I day in the
Ultima 250cc Intermediate class, finishing
ahead of Gary Ungbeck in both motos.

competitive Over 40 Intermediate class. He

M
other Nature did her best to cast a shadow on one of the most popular events on
the American Historic Racing Motorcycle Association National Vintage Motocross Series calendar, but overnight rain and sporadic showers
throughout race day didn't dampen the spirits
of the riders who gathered in Casey, Illinois, for
round six of the AMS Racing-sponsored event.
The day was highlighted with many fast competitors and great race action.
Eric Muffley jetted around the sprawling,
natural-terrain layout, conSistently clocking the
fastest lap times throughout the day, but he
also had an unfortunate string of bad luck that
hindered his overall finishes in two of the three
classes he contested.
Muffley led the opening moto of the
Sportsman 500cc Expert class from the start
until midway through the final lap, when an
empty fuel tank brought his 10<400 to a sudden
halt. A surprised jay Gref gladly accepted the
lead as he motored by the stranded Muffley and
on to the moto win. Muffley filled his tank and
blasted to an unchallenged wire-ta-wire victory
in the second mota. Gref couldn't repeat his
first-mota performance, which allowed Alex
Rossetto to earn the class championship with
S4
consistent 2-3 moto finishes. Gref's 1-4 score
earned second-place honors.
Gary Roach and Muffley battled throughout
the four motos in the Sportsman 2SOcc Expert
and Over 40 Expert classes. The two riders
exhibited contrasting riding styles as they
exchanged the lead, moto wins, and class tides.
Roach used his smooth and deliberate technique
to capture the Sportsman 2SOcc Expert dass with
a 2-1 tally, over Muffley's 1-2 score. Muffley used
his full-mrotde style to rocket his speedy 10< into
the lead as a field of 10 Over 40 Expert riders left
the start line. Roach shadowed the leader, ahead
of jeffrey Beerbower, in third. Roach's constant
pressure finally paid off on the third lap as he
executed a nifty pass coming out of the woods
section. Once in the lead, Roach rode flawlessly to
the checkered flag. Moto two also began with a
Muffley holeshot. Roach again r,..;1ed the leader
but was unable to pull off an encore performance,
as he followed the leader from start to finish,
earning second in the moto and """"'".
Kim Armstrong timed the first Over 50
Intermediate mota start perfectly, pulling a
huge holeshot. Bruce Rounsaville worked his
CZ into the lead on lap two. Mike Adams
joined their battle, followed closely by Thomas
Vallandingham and john Rinkenberg.
Rounsaville dropped his bike and the lead;
Adams rocketed his Maico into the top spot
