enny Breck finished off the 28th annual
running of the California Racing Club/Rid-
ers' Choice Performance.sponsored J.B.
Memorial Duneslown Series. the Dunestown
Gran Prix, with a win in the lSDcc Intennediate class at los Angeles County Raceway.
Ryan Reina completed the opening lap of
the 45-minute race in the lead, ahead of Colton
Udall, Adam lane, Breck and Brad Goolsby.
Reina appeared to have the pace out front well
in hand as he kept Udall at bay, while Breck
slowly inched toward the two front-runners.
The last 10 minutes is where the passing
took place, as Breck, on his Santa Barbara
Motorsports!Thor/FMF-backed Suzuki, found a
way around both Udall and Reina for the welldeserved win. With time running out, Udall
worked his way around Reina for the secondplace trophy. Brad Goolsby crossed the line for
fourth, ahead of lane and Robbie Goolsby.
The 125cc Novice class was a Brian
Radovich affair, as the Kawasaki rider
dominated the race from start to finish. Max
Adams held down second place up until the
midway point, when both Cody Maness and
Zach Brown slipped past. Brown overtook
Maness during the final stages to finish in
second place. Parker Eckman came from his
10th-place position on lap one to claim fourth,
ahead of Andrew Hammer and Adams.
Drew Gosselaar jumped out to an early
lead in the Supermini race, with Chris Plouffe
and Austin Politelli giving chase. A small bobble
on the pavement section dropped Trent
Pugmire to the back of the pack on the
opening lap. Gosselaar would go the distance
for the win, while Pugmire worked his way
the lead in the first I25cc A moto, ahead of
Smulders and Jesse Frassetto. Smulders checked
up a little bit before the whoops, allowing
Zambon to distance himself. On the second lap
of six, Smulders closed in on zambon through
the whoops and made a dash for the lead.
Smulders made the pass stick as Zambon
messed up in the next corner before they
headed around the pond. Joe Skodras moved
into fourth, behind Zambon, at the halfway
point. Frassetto made a mistake in the rhythm
section by the finish line. falling back to sixth.
Grube assumed the third spot, but 5kodras
was chasing him down. On the final lap, Skodras
pulled alongside Grube in the back section and
challenged the Yamaha rider for the final stretch of
the race. They came together after the spectator
jump and touched bars briefly right before the
finish line, sending Grube back to fifth. Smulders
took the moto win, with Zambon second,
Skodras third, Frassetto fourth and Grube fifth.
"I had passed Jesse over the double-double
after the whoops," said Smulders. "We both
came out of the corner together, but he hit
some of the slick stuff, and I went by him. We
both rode a great race. Jesse is a great rider, but
I just kept myself mentally focused and I kept
my game on and kept charging."
"The race went well," Grube said. "I fought
it out with Jesse Zambon for the holeshot, and

back up to Gosselaar's back wheel for a·c1ose
second at the checkers. Plouffe hung in there
for third, ahead of Eckman and Politelli.
Mike Biggs appeared to be on his way to a
victory in the I25cc Beginner class until Cody
Stauffer came along. Stauffer dogged Biggs for a
couple of laps near the midway point before
dropping Biggs back a position. Biggs stuck with
Stauffer for a circuit or two before Stauffer
checked out with the win. Matt Tribbey came
on strong toward the end to nip Biggs for
second place. Bradley Bastin and Matt Nicholas
finished in fourth and fifth, respectively.
In what may have been one of his last rides
in the escc Beginner class, Honda-mounted
Cory Conner proved to be untouchable.
Michael Gereghty and Cameron Tribbey
chased each other up through the field to finish
in second and third, respectively, after 45
minutes of racing. Troy Armstrong was
rewarded with a fourth-place finish, ahead of
Michael Walters and Frank Tucker.

a couple of great Wisconsin riders got around
me and I settled into third early on, as Frassetto
had some troubles. Joe Skodras and I got
together right at the hump before the finish
line, and unfortunately I went down, but that's
racing. I guess."
"I started on the inside, and the ground was
dug really deep," Zambon said. "I got out of the
gate nice, and when I hit third gear, it pulled real
nice for me and I just got around Grube for the
holeshot."
Smulders took the second-moto holeshot,
ahead of Kawasaki jockey Matt Mraz. Also
hounding the leaders was Frassetto, Eric Weise
and Zambon. Mraz fended off Zambon for a
lap, but Zambon finally got the upper hand.
Up front, Smulders had nothing but clear
sailing. Frassetto moved into second, ahead of
Zambon, and stayed there until the checkers
flew. Smulders went I-I for the overall. while
Zambon salvaged second overall with his 2-3
tally. Frassetto. on a two-stroke amongst
thumpers, captured the third spot with 4-2
finishes. Rounding out the top five were
Skodras and Dan Holbus.
Unbound Energy rider Smulders also went
on to capture the big Dash For Cash event,
pocketing a nice chunk of change. He also went
out and smoked the Open class and went 3-1 in
the 250cc A division.
