Nolan. Huntsville Power Sports, however, kept the pressure on in third. Moody, Eva Kuhn and Campbell continued to battle in Ironwoman. Light problems caused several teams havoc during the night. The Hedgehog/KTM Midsouth team of Jeremy Ketchum, Clay Hedgepath, Timmy P'PooI, Andy Shea, Steve Gordon and Aaron Sanders had worked their way to within two minutes of the Expert leader, Graham KTM/Last Dime, when a light malfunction caused a lengthy pit stop and ultimately took them out of contention. KTM Southeast, however, overcame their lighting problems to stay on track. As the sun rose, AmPro Yamaha held on to the overall. "It was incredible how fast Ty Davis was riding at night," Gordon of Team Hedgehog/KTM Midsouth said. The Baja veteran had soldiered through the night clicking off several laps at amazing speed. At 10:00 a.m. on Sunday morning, after 24 hours and over 500 miles of trail, Jason Raines piloted the AmPro Yamaha to first Elite team and first overall. "This was a well-organized race. I'm glad to see the East host an event like this," Team member Hawkins said. "None of our team members had conflicting dates with other series, so we were able to attend. We hope our schedules work out next year so we can come back." Finishing second overall and second Elite team was KTM Southeast/Cycle Specialty; it was a position they had held since relinquishing the lead at night. The Gas Gas of Acadiana team of Stephen Reed, Dylan Debel, David Bragg, John Barber, Doby Leonard and Fred Hoess finished a strong third in class and third overall. The battle in the Expert class resembled a boxing match where neither opponent could score a knockout. After many lead changes, Graham KTM/Last Dime won over KTM Southeast with a sixminute margin. The Hattiesburg Cycle Suzuki team rounded out the top three in the class. SSC One held on to take top honors in the Sportsman division, with Huntsville Power Sports and the H&H team second and third, respectfully, less than six minutes apart. Ironman Phillips took the checkers first, making it four in a row with a convincing win and tallying 30 laps on his trusty XR400. Phil Whisenant competing in 40plus Ironman was second, with last year's runner-up Fletcher Aspden taking third. Moody used her experience to tally the Ironwoman win, followed by Kuhn and Campbell. "This was my first 24-hour, after much prodding from my brother, Gary Barr," Moody said. "There was a great turnout for the Ironwoman class. Both Casey Campbell and Eva put in exceptional rides. This was an awesome experience. Many thanks to Perry Mountain and all the sponsors." eN REYNOLDS PASTURE MAPLESVIW, ALABAMA RESULTS: JUNE 4-5, 2005 OVERALL: I. Am Pro Yamaha; 2. KTM Southeast! Briefly••• Support at this year's event included the KTM "Orange Zone," with the factory semi offering a place for riders to hang out, buy parts, get mechanical help and ask questions about KTM-brand products. The NiteRider support truck was also present in pit row to sell products and help resolve late-night light problems. Ty Davis and Nathan Woods now have 24-hour championships on both coasts, having won the Perry Mountain Challenge and the 24-hour at Glen Helen. At the spectator point known as the Village Cycle Center IDO-mph Field, club members used a radar gun to clock riders, and Red Bull awarded a $300 check to the team posting the fastest speed. The award went to the Husaberg Racing/SRS team with a speed of 83 mph. In addition to winning the Ironman title, Mike Phillips was extended an invitation to the Red Bull first annual Last Man Standing event to be held November 12 in Bulcher, Texas. The race is billed as an invitation-only off-road survival event that will test the skill and stamina of the rider. Speed along pit row was strictly enforced using radar guns in two locations. Teams that exceeded 10 mph were given a five-minute penalty in the pits and awarded a Skull and Crossbones on their team sign. Subsequent violations resulted in longer penalties. ncuucnuu/ KTM MlDSOUTI J Crel!l~. K~ ~~c hurn CI.'~V H.eg?p~lh Timmv ~:Pool An~v ~h..a Steve GDrdan .. ' I ' AarDn Sanders "' ....
