Handicap main events, respectively, Saturday night.
It was • special night for Jerry King, now in his nnd year as the
Costa Mesa Speedway starter. It was • night he wanted to share
_
with his famity, the spectators and competitors. In a ceremony in
the inneld, he took his radiant fiancee, Brittany. as his wife.
The first semi h.d "Fast Ed" Castro on the pole, with Skyler
Greyson in two and Faria and Hedden in three and four. Castro
took the lead from the get-go and never looked back. Faria
was content with second, knowing they would meet again in
the main. Hedden and Greyson were headed for the lastchance qualifier.
Chris "The Kid" Manchester had the pole in the second
.. semi, with Shawn "Mad Dog" McConnell in two, and Chris Kerr
.nd "Cowboy" Bobby Krips on the outside. It was .11
Manchester, with McConnell running second, and they were on
their way to the main. Kerr and Krips headed to the pits to get

made a great pass and came away with the win and the last spot
in the Scratch main.
For the main, it was Kerr on the pole, with McConnell in
two, Castro in three, and Faria and Manchester in four and five.
It was one heck of a drag race to the first corner, and then Faria
exited turn two in the lead, with Manchester running second.
They were running close and hard; all five could have
exchanged phone numbers without having to raise their voices.
One mistake would have changed the running order, but none
happened; Faria is a veteran and he seldom makes mistakes.
Manchester settled for second. with Kerr third, followed by
Castro and McConnell.
The lineup for the Handicap main had Brian Starr alone on
1 to 4 man teams

highway concrete, railroad ties, telephone poles, cement
drainage tile, and fallen trees from storms long ago.
You get the picture, right? A mess of stuff thrown into the
rock-filled woods.
