Motokozie Elko-Monkato Dealer Series ('ship Round 4: Elko Motocross Track Emmick Jumps to Trio of Elko Wins By BOB CHASE ELKO, MN, JUNE 5 A s the rain-soaked District 23 season continued, Elko was I""\.r..he site of the latest round of the waterlogged season. Despite full gates and changing track conditions, John Emmick was able to win three classes - the I25cc B, 250cc Band 16-24 B classes. A wet track in the morning and a forecast of rain for later in the day didn't seem to deter the 430 riders who signed up for a day of racing. Although it was a bit sloppy in the early going, Mother Nature and the hard work of the Motokazie crew contributed to excellent conditions for most of the day. A brief, hard shower midway through the second set of motos left the track a bit greasy for a while, but it turned tacky again before the races were over. The first 16-24 B moto featured an excellent early battle for the lead between Emmick and Zachary Soucek, with Emmick moving into the lead for good on the last lap. Soucek held off a closing Nick Oja, who was followed by Troy Buske and Blake Lawrence. In the second moto, Emmick, Matt Foels and Garret Rigelman were close for the first lap, but Emmick turned it up and ran off with the win. Foels, Rigelman and Aaron Deer rode close to the end, finishing in that order. Overall, it was Emmick, followed by Soucek (2-5), Oja (3-7), Lawrence (5-6) and Rigelman (9-3). A race with slightly older riders also proved to be entertaining. In the first Over 40 NB moto, Over 40 A points leader David Spizman nailed the holeshot, over Don Bonnickson and Tim Bernloehr. The top three stayed tight until Bonnickson went down hard toward the end of the newly reconfigured rhythm section. Bernloehr kept the pressure on Spizman for most of the race but lost him toward the end as they got into lappers. A ways back in third was a nice battle that ended with Buck holding the position over B rider Brad Carter and Jonathan Hodapp. The second moto saw another Spizman holes hot, but Bernloehr got by toward the end of lap one. Spizman stayed close, making the pass on lap three for the moto and overall win. Bonnickson was a strong third, slightly out of touch with the leaders. Spizman and Bernloehr took the top two overall positions, followed by Buck (4-3), Bonnickson (7-3) and Tim Hanson (5-5). Carter finished sixth in the second race, sweeping the Over 40 B class. Brett Ohland won all six motos of 125cc A, 250cc A and 16-24 A classes. No other riders were able to win three classes, and onty two were able to double up. Gavin Kadlec won the 85cc (7-1 I) and 85cc (9-12) classes, and Jesse Kangas topped the Supermini and Schoolboy classes. Delano Sports Center, Leo's South, Cities Edge, Hitching Post, Excel Motor Sports, Scott, MinnesotaCars.com, and Race Tools all provide support for this series.
