evii Hall, fresh from a countrywide tour to take in some
'~ateur Nationals" and other big races, made his way back
to his home track in time to put a whuppin' on the 65cc and 85cc
classes. He won many. but perhaps his most impressive performance was in Saturday's Supermini class, at least in part because
that contest included Zachary Fussell and Zaeh Ahleen, as well as
other racers who were also packed "National" speed. Hall, a
"Mini-Mo" at I I years of age, would be racing riders up to 16
years old. But his toughest competition would probably come
from another young Mini prodigy, Zachary Fussell.
In fact, it was Fussell who stormed to the first turn ahead of
Hall and the other genuine threat to win in this class, Ahleen.
One-two-three, they ripped off the laps, while Jarrett Wackerli
was holding of( Rowdy Williamson and Rudi Williams in a wild
brawl for fourth. Fussell, leading the race, went down on the east
side, leaving Hall and Ahleen joined at the hip for the lead. Levii
stretched it, Ahleen matched it, and the end was a photo finish,
with Hall emerging as the victor. Fussell recovered for third, as
Williamson led Wackerli, Dakota Roberson and Connor Olson
through the pipes.
WackerH swooped of( the line to start the second half, only to
see little Hall rip past in the first tum. Fussell was right there, of
course, while Ahleen had to work his way up into third. It was
the Hall and Fussell show, as Ahleen was struggling to close up
this time. Hall took it - comfortably - as Fussell led Ahleen and
Wackerli at the end.
The 125cc Pro race was not a cakewalk, either, as winner
Derek Costella had to come from behind to capture the overall
crown. He took the opening holeshot, with Chad Jorgensen,
Gray Davenport and Michael Parker giving chase. Costella
hooked it up and took off, while Davenport worked his way into
second. The Wild West National Pro race is a long one, which
gave the fast-dosing Davenport a chance to showcase his

cKinzie Edwards was in the right place at
the right time, which was in the top three
in both 50cc Senior motos. Riding fast but in
control put him on the top step of the podium
when the points were tallied at Red Bud MX.
When the gate dropped for moto one, Lem
rider Broc Wright exploded off the gate and
roared down the start straight, with Tanner
Gray, Joey Paugh, Hunter Burnham and Edwards
all giving chase. Wright was solid out front,
clicking off one fast lap after another, while
behind him all heck was breaking loose. Gray
went down on lap four. The battle between
Paugh and Edwards was a great one, as the two
youngsters went back and forth over second for
the next three laps. Behind them, Nathan
Moore was making a run to the front, pushing
hard to get by Gray and Burnham. At the
checkered flag, the running order was Wright
with a six-second cushion over Edwards, who
had to fight off a moto-Iong barrage of pressure
from Paugh, who would finish third. Moore
overcame a tough start to finish fourth, one
place better than Andrew Bumpus, who didn't

conditioning program late in the race. Race one went to
Davenport, with Costella leading Parker and Beni Williams
through the pipes.
Focused and determined, Costella blasted into the lead in
race two. Jorgensen and Davenport weren't letting him get away.
Costella turned it up and took off, as Davenport took over
second. It was aU Costella this time, as he took the moto win and
claimed the overall 125cc Pro title. Davenport finished second,
leading Parker, Jorgensen and Levi Jensen in the final results. eN

get the start he wanted, either.
When the gate hit the ground for moto two,
it was a different story. Out front this time
around was Cobra tamer Braxton Hale, and the
little guy was on it! Burnham was second, with
Brock Stellner, Edwards and Paugh all in his
shadow, each looking to better his spot in the
pecking order. Out front, Hale was riding great
and tearing up the track; judging from the speed
he was showing, he'll be a player all season
long. Stellner made his move past Burnham on
lap three, but by then Hale was gone. Edwards
was taking full advantage of his good start and
riding well in third. Moore got another start he
would like to forget, but he worked his way
through the pack and was now pressuring
Burnham. who had settled into fourth. At the
checkered flag, it was Hale flying by for the
second-moto win and, with his 9-1 tally, the
third-overall trophy. Stellner (17-2) avenged
some moto-one mechanical troubles by coming
in a strong second. Third place went to
Edwards - as did the day's overall, due to his
consistent 2-3 tally. Burnham (7-4) was fourth,
beating out Moore (4-S) in a last-lap
showdown; Burnham won the battle, but
Moore won the war and second overall.
The SOce Senior and 50cc Junior classes will
be running on the big track every Saturday at
Red Bud, weather permitting, fulfilling a request
that the Red Bud gang heard a lot last season.
