Coleman, on the 7S0cc Suzuki, went wheel to wheel with 600cc Honda-mounted Fouchek. Layman and Tony Palarie battled for third. Fouchek found some magic on the back section of the track, as he gained ground and went on to his second victory of the day. As the 750cc Expert Superstock race came to the line, the drizzle began. With all of the bikes on DOTs, seven riders returned to the pits after the first lap. Batey took the lead, with teammate John Jacobi right there. Rubin Frankenfield moved up to create a "Hoosier war" for second. By halfway, the rain stopped, but the track was still wet. With a lap to go, Frankenfield took second and finished there, behind Batey. In the combined 600cc Superbike final, Keith Marshall shot into the lead, with Larry Denning, David Weber, Giovanni Rojas and Chris Normand right behind. It was a threeway battle in the Novice portion, with Layman, Fouchek and Larry Dulaney going strong on the drying track. Marshall and Fouchek took the respective victories. Ben Thompson was flying in the 750cc Superbike final, winning comfortably, as Fouchek took his fourth win of the day in the Novice portion, running up to seventh overall. Smith and Jensen wen[ toe to toe in Formula By DAN SCHMITI JENNINGS, Fl, MAR. 21 U nder overcast skies, the first WERA National of the season kicked off at Jennings GP. In the Open Superstock final, the Vesrah Suzuki crew took the early lead, with Tray Batey leading. Right behind this threesome, Robert Jensen and Mike Smith were making tracks toward the front. Riding 750cc Suzukis, Jensen moved into the lead on lap three, taking Smith with him. As Jensen stretched out his lead, Smith and Batey battled for second to the end. Meanwhile, Charlie Coleman won the Novice portion of this race. J.B. Layman took the lead in the Novice 600cc Superstock final, but within two laps Shea Fouchek came from the back of the pack to snatch the lead and run with it to the flag. In the Expert 600cc Supemock final, Vesrah Suzuki's Mark Junge led off the line, but Jensen again was not to be denied. bringing Smith with him again. Just past halfway, Scon Harwell and Shawn Conrad began an epic skirmish for third that lasted [0 the checkers. Batey had his SV I000 purring as he went flag to flag in the Heavyweight Twins Superstock class. Chad Hermann took the Novice Victory. Ross Ryals held off Kris Wall In the Expert Ughtweight Twins Superstock final, as Hermann added another victory to his tally. second and Congdon in third. J.L. Bitz and Nick Baugh split the I25cc and 250cc Pro victories on the day, with each rider claiming a I-I tally. Bitz had to fight off a leaking fork seal, which he said was causing the forks to dive in some sections. "All together, it was pretty good," Bin said of his day after the final race. "She was diving on me pretty bad. But I felt a lot better in the second 12Scc moto." In the Supermini contest, Clayton Peterson and Wayne Appleton diced at the front, with Peterson taking the I-I victory. Appleton hung on for second and later scored a convincing win in the 80cc Intermediate class, over Dakota May and Zak Riley. Shea Fouchek finished first in faur finals at Florida's Jennings GP Roadcourse, site of the Michelin/WERA National Challenge Series opener. One for 10 laps. On the lap that counted, Jensen took his third win olthe day. "Jennings GP is an excellent racetrack, and it is great to be here from Texas," exclaimed four-race winner Fouchek. "The Michelin tires are working great: my Yamahas, too," said three-race winner Jensen. Charlie Coleman to water the track by midmorning to keep the dust at bay. The racers didn't seem to miss the practice on Saturday and rewarded the fans with some great racing. The SOcc Open class belonged to Troy Lee Lem rider Braden Bunker, who scored two mota wins. Bunker fell in the first mota but got up and, now on a mission, regained the lead. Josh Theus used the last mota to secure the final podium spot for the weekend. The 65cc (7-9) contest was all Suzuki jockey Taylor Holt's, with back-to· back wins. KTM-mounted Colton Ford took the secondoverall honors with a good ride. KTM rider Jake Stansberry captured third overall with a steady ride. The 85cc (12-15) class saw Forrest Lane win both motos on his Suzuki for the overall.
