MX West Spring Series Round 6: Champion Speedway Valdez Vanishes in Carson By ROBERT BEAUPRE CARSON CITY, NV, APR. 2-3 n a day that saw brisk wind and bitterly cold temperatures, Andrew Valdez glided past it all to take a convincing I-I victory in the Schoolboy class at round six of the MX West Spring Series. Valdez had to battle mediocre starts in addition to the wind and cold, but it was clear from early in each mota that he was headed to the front. Valdez was one of the few riders tripling into the difficult Carson rhythm section, and nearly the only non-Pro rider doing so. Second place on the day went to the fast-starting Dean Wilcox, whom Valdez had to chase down in both motos to take the lead. Brandon Baxter claimed third. VaJdez also looked like a threat for the 12Scc Intermediate class win after he put in another come-from· behind ride to win the first moto. However, a first-lap crash in the second moto ended his shot at the overall and opened the door for a list of close-running Intermediates. First·moto runner-up Nate Vandermade took the early lead in the second moto, followed closely by Ryan Eager, Casey Dean and Kyle Congdon. Eager took over the lead after a few laps, only to throw it away with a fall shortly after. Then Vandermade again took the lead, with Dean close behind. Dean soon took over the lead, which he would hold to the finish. But it was Vandermade's consistent 2-2 tally that earned the overall victory, followed by Dean in O All Yamaha ,ide,• • ,e eligible to will. 2005 ANY IIAKe OF IIOTORCYCLe 'S BLlG'8tE FOR AMAHA YZ250F PRIZES AND POINTS r-------l.-----..::.~ Given by Yamaha Corp.• nd p.rllclp.lIng Y,maha Dealers.
