I ocaJ rider TJ. nffany trounced the competition at round three
L..or the Florida Motocross Series, taking double moto wins in
the 250cc B and 16-24 classes. The weather was great for racing,
with the sun shining and temperatures in the 70s. Almost 400 riders came to battle on this sandy, supercross-style track.
The first moto of the day was for the 250cc B class. Nicholas
Mackie took the holeshot, followed closely by Tiffany. The two
began to pull away from the rest of the pack. Halfway through lap
two, Tiffany made his move in the deep sand in the back section
to take the lead on the outside of a comer. The two continued to
keep their distance from the other riders, with Tiffany pulling
away (rom Mackie to take the moto win. Philip Hewett started
third but slipped to fifth at the end, giving up third and fourth to
Zach Fiorina and Jordan Marlin, respectively. Tiffany won moto
two as well, on his Yamaha. Mackie, Fiorina and Marlin rounded
out the top (OUf. Jacob Priest completed the top five.
The 16-24 class took to the track for its first mota, with
Russell Clay leading the pack. Tiffany, Hewett, Bradley Bernier
and Troy Snyder rounded out the top five. Tiffany made the
pass for the lead by the second corner. It was all Tiffany for the
remainder of the mota. Snyder moved up to third, with Bernier
and Jon Boydston in tow. The three crept up on Clay toward
the end of the mota, but the four stayed the same to take the
checkered flag. Tiffany scored the win in mota two, and Fiorina
followed home in second. Taylor McDonald held off Clay and
Bernier for third.
The fastest rider on the day was Barry Carsten, visiting from
New Jersey. The National and Supercross rider was in town for
Bike Week. and he took the wins in the 125cc A, 250cc A and
Over 30 classes. Carsten battled with Paul Perebijnos in both
12Scc A matos, taking the win over the Honda rider each time.
in the first 250cc A moto. Shawn Mayo got the holeshot and
led for most of the first lap. Then Carsten passed him on the last
corner to take over, and he never looked back. Mayo slowty
faded, eventually finishing fifth. Perebijnos moved into second on
lap two, but Carsten had just enough of a lead that Perebijnos
could not catch up. Neil Farlow from Ontario, Canada, moved
by Roy Uetz and Mayo to take the last podium spot.
The second moto was more of Carsten taking his Suzuki to
the win. Farlow battled with Perebijnos to take second. Billy
Wood finished a much better fourth after a disastrous first
mota. Joshua Hildebrand rounded out the top five.
Three other riders scored two class wins. Cannon Pixley
and Kyle Goerke swept all their matos, with Cannon topping
the 65cc (10-1 I) and 65cc Open classes and Goerke topping
the Junior Mini (9-13) and 85cc (12-13) classes.
