The race was still far from over: Hodges charged back up to Crutcher's rear wheel on the last lap. Hodges went inside and outside. looking for a place to make the pass, but his charge for the lead came up a bikelength short at the finish. Crutcher celebrated his victory with a one-footed whip over the finish-line jump. Royce ended up third again. but not without pressure from Iowa's jared Robey all moto long. Hodges did come back to dominate both 12scc Pro motos with come-from-behind rides both times out. In other race action, John Berry and Riley Wolfe battled all day long in the 65cc Senior and Open classes, with each rider taking one win apiece. Keeton Gorton and Aviery Hickey split wins in the Sscc classes, and Chase Evans and Dillon Cloyed traded wins in the sOcc classes. judging by the huge turnout of riders, it looks like this will be a very successful year of racing for Thunder Hill, now in its second full season of racing. DixieMX Miller Grooves, Collins Improves By HUGH GATLIN OZARK, AL, MAR. 6 CMC Northwest Spring Motocross Series P anama City, Florida's Derrick Miller found Round I: Albany Motorsporfs Park his groove on Dixie MX's red-clay course. Leach, Randklev Rattle 'em By CLAY LIGHT ALBANY, OR, MAR. 6 D iminutive KTM- and Suzuki-mounted R.j. Leach and Honda rider Nick RandkIev rattled the competition at the opening round of the CMC-sanctioned Spring Motocross Series, held at Albany Motor.: sports Park. Of the two, Leach was the most successful, snaring the day's lone triple-class win tally: his wins came in the 6Scc (8-8). 6Scc Open and Sscc Beginner classes. Meanwhile, Randklev topped the 12Scc and Before The Hill Intermediate classes. Leach, who late last year stepped up to the Sscc class, had things going his way in the 6scc classes, in which he's enjoyed semidominance for the past two seasons. His fellow KTM riders Alyas Wardius and Wyatt Aguirre gave Leach tough competition en route to his dual 6Scc wins, but neither would completely tire out the rider from Albany, who came back strong in both Sscc Beginner-class motos. In the 19-rider field, Leach split mota wins with Yamaha-mounted Anthony Romero. Though Romero beat Leach to the finish in the first mota, Leach got the nod in mota two to finalize his successful three-class run on the day. Romero (1-2) and Wardius (3-3) trailed Leach overall. Randklev, who hails from nearby Tangent, made short work of the 12Scc Intermediate contest. Yamaha rider Aaron McClinton and Honda-mounted Robert Wullbrandt chased Randklev in both motos. McClinton's secondplace second-mota finish garnered the rider from Albany the runner-up position, behind Randklev, in that class. Randklev and McClinton placed one-two in the Before The Hill 64 Intermediate class, while Cody Crumley finished third overall. Jeremiah Sparks spent several years toiling in the Beginner ranks, but he's caught fire this season. Riding a Yamaha YZ2S0F, Sparks won both motos in the competitive 12scc Junior class, even fending off class dominator Shane Skiles and Tyler Schwentker in both motos for the overall win. Schwentker, Grant Hall and Zack Aguirre completed the top five. Schwentker, though, reversed the order in the Before The Hill Junior class, picking up a win ahead of Sparks, Skiles and Husqvarna-mounted Allen Yother. A large field of Over 40 contestants was on hand. split into four classes. Kawasaki rider Dave Fox was the fastest of those riders and picked up an overall Over 40 Money-class win by Winning both motos. Expert Kelly Whelchel, Intermediate Matt Brown and Junior Mark Smith picked up their respective wins in the adjoined classes. RESULTS P/W (0-6): I. Justice Sather (Hus); 2. Jacob Bobbit (Han); 3. Looking for a stiffer challenge, Miller also put his mini up against the 2s0cc four-strokes in the combined Youth class and ended up with second in the 2S0cc (12-15) division. behind Yamaha-mounted Aaron Boume. An imprOVing Cole Collins also competed in three classes. The rider from Gallion, Alabama, scored wins in the Sscc Beginner and Trail Bike classes. Collins also tested the waters in the 12scc 0 class and went 5-5 for the day. In both 8Scc (12-1 S) motos, Miller grabbed the holeshot and used his aggreSSive, high-rev riding style to drive away from the RMs of Tommy Brinkman and Preston Jennings. The trio lined up again in the Supermini class. and the results were the same. In the combined Youth class, Ben Waldner pulled the first-mota holeshot and rode unchallenged to the finish. Jeremy Richard dropped his CR into second place early and stayed there. Bourne, Miller and Austin Belsterling had a good battle for third. Bourne used the power of his YZ250F to secure the position. On the final lap, Belsterling slid out and Ethan Bruner tagged him for a pOSition. Bourne followed Waldner's YZF into the first turn in race two. Richard moved to second and followed Waldner home again. Miller chased Bourne all the way to the flag. Belsterling took another fall and Bruner tallied a DNf For the second race in a row at Dixie, Angie Knox lost the Sscc Beginner win on a tie breaker. In race one, she kept her CRSS ahead of Collins' YZSS the entire distance. In race two, she kept Collins in sight but was unable to attempt a pass. Collins took the start of the first Trail Bike/Mini Four-Stroke mota, ahead of fellow Honda rider justin Tyre. Kyle Moon cut underneath Tyre while Collins pulled away. Dustin Jones placed fourth. In race two, Collins quickly built a lead and maintained control the whole way. Moon put a cat-quick pass on Tyre in a right-hander and picked up another second aboard his KLX. A fading Tyre held on for third, over Jones and Ryan Tindal. In the first 12Scc D/Hobby moto, Tyre showed the wayan his older-model KX 125 before Chad Reeves passed him coming out of the back section. Cory Huffstutler held the leaders' pace and finished third. Kelly Brinkman was a solid fourth. Reeves outdragged Huffstutler to the third turn in moto two and stayed out front until the final lap. On the move from fourth place, Tyre cut under Huffstutler for second, and then closed dramatically on Reeves' YZ 125. He passed over a double and stole the mota and overall wins from Reeves. Brinkman and Collins rounded out the top five. RESULTS P/W 50: I. Carson Shores (Yam); 2. Mark White (Han); 3. Tiffany Bocchino (KTM); -4. Blake Hatfield (Han); 5. Ann Marie Shores (Kaw).
