Monroe Motocross Park
Chilton Clobbers the
Competition at Monroe MX
By BILLY ATKINSON
MONROE, GA, MAR. 5
onroe Motocross Park is located a few
miles outside Atlanta and is a favorite
place to practice close to the big city. Monroe
holds a race every now and then, and this
weekend featured a good event. The crew was
working hard on the track right up until race
time, and the surface was ready to go. Let's
grab a seat, because the board is sideways!
The gate fell for the 65cc Beginner class, and
it was KTM rider Hector Rodriguez taking the
overall win with a pair of good rides. Kawasaki
jockey Christina Heaton put her head down
and put in a couple good rides for the second
podium spot. Kawasaki man Tyler Creasy was
held the third spot after hitting the starting gate
in one moto.
The Junior Cycle class was a 65cc advanced
class, and it was the property of Paul Nelson on
his fast Suzuki. Michaei Keen kept his KTM's
throttle pinned and almost ran down Nelson in
the last moto. Randy Howell, on his fast K.X,
held up the honor of Team Green with the final
podium spot.
The junior Mini division saw KTM ace Keen
take the overall, over Suzuki rider Nelson. These
two riders put on a great show racing in two
classes and were the ones to watch for those who
wanted a large dose of motocross. Josh Lewis, on
his screaming Honda, took third overall.
In the 85cc class, Zachary Nicholson used
his Honda to win the overall victory. Kawasaki
jockey Trevor Godfrey took a solid second
overall. josh Brandes Kawasakied his way onto
the podium with a solid ride.

Uquid Performance U.S. Eastern Spring Series
Rounds la/I: Elizabeth City MX
Horrocks, Wood Duel in the Dirt
By GREG SUMNER
ELIZABETH CITY, NC, FEB. 27
The Elizabeth City MX Club played host to
I the final round of the Tucker-Rocky MidAtlantic Winter Motocross Series, which dou-
bled as the first round of the Liquid Performance U.S. Eastern Spring Series. More than
300 riders came out to compete and found that
the crew at ECMX had been renovating the
track, which is now wider, with a cool doubledouble-double rhythm section to the finish -
perfect for a championship round!
When [he gate dropped for the 250cc A
class, Valley Suzuki/Empire Graphix/Answer/
661/FMF rider Rodney Horrocks grabbed the
holeshot, but Blue Ridge Powersports/DRD/Fly/
Serious/Lp Ronda rider Isha Wood took over
the lead down the long Highway 64
backstretch. Wood and Horrocks jockeyed for
position for two laps, which allowed a hardcharging Aaron Day to catch the two and join
the battle. Woods maintained the lead by
jumping the triple every lap; Day and Horrocks
would catch back up through the rhythm
section. On lap five, the three all jumped the
triple in unison; Day cased it and got kicked up
on the front wheel. Horrocks set up for the
final turn; Day, still trying to save it, hit
Horrocks. Day went down, but the bobble
allowed Wood to gap Horrocks as they took
the white flag. Day remounted to finish third.
Chris Welsh earned fourth. Broc Burman made
a last-lap pass on Scottie Shipley through the
rhythm section to take fifth.
In moto two, Horrocks led the pack out of
the first turn. Wood made his move for the lead
out of turn two and down the backstretch.
Shipley and Day gave pursuit. With Wood and
Horrocks out front, Day took third from
Shipley. On lap two, on the triple doubles,
Horrocks was on the inside of Wood, but Day
gassed it down the middle and took the lead!
Horrocks was now second, with Wood third.
On lap five, Day had pulled a safe lead as he
approached the final straight, but he overshot
the first of three doubles, cased the second, and
then cross-rutted the third, launching off track
and into the fence! Woods took the lead, over
Horrocks. Day rejoined in third. Welsh
overtook Shipley for fourth at the start of the
finaJ lap. Wood won the moto and overall, with
Horrocks second, Day third, and Welsh fourth.
Shipley (6-5) beat Burman (S-6) for fifth overall.
Horrocks (1-2) earned the I25cc A overall.
Day (4-1) scored second, Wood (2-3) took
third, Weish (3-4) was fourth, and Erik Pfeiffer
(6-5) earned fifth.

Pfeiffer won the first Over 35 moto, but
Honda of High Point/Scott/White Brothers rider
Shipley went on to take the overall. Pfeiffer (1-2)
was second. jeffrey McClure, Mark Weaver and
Brad Crouch rounded out the top five.
Shipley also swept both Over 40 motos.
Crouch was second. Russell Seibold. joe
Nestegard and Phil Dodson complete the top fIVe.
The members of the Elizabeth City
Motocross Club did a great job with track prep
and the event as a whole. Their efforts are
much appreciated.
