The Thor United States Mega Series. one of the premier
I motocross series on the East Coast, opened with Ryan Sipes
of Supercross fame, on a Team Green/O'NeaI/FMF/PR2-sponsored Suzuki, capturing both the 12Scc and 2SOcc Pro classes.
Carbone Lorraine/Sunstar/lMS/Hinson-backed Kevin Walker
from Gray, Tennessee, made his presence known by getting the
holeshot in both 2SOcc Pro motos. Sipes was right on Walker's
rear wheel throughout the entire moto but couldn't make a pass,
as Walker ran a flawless race and took the checkered flag first.
Walker took the holes hot again in the second mota but
relinqUished the lead to Sipes and Cernics/Torco/Spy-backed
Kevin Hoge, who finished third overall.
The 12Scc Pro contest was all Sipes'. He didn't get the
holeshots, but he took the lead early in both motos and led all
the way to the checkered flag.
WaJker went on to sweep the Over 30 Expert class.
Ryan's brother Justin Sipes, riding a Gateway Cycles/
Scott/Dunlop/Maxima-sponsored Kawasaki, dominated both
motos in the I25cc B class. Honda rider Heath Lyons, sponsored
by Transport Honda and Lyons Auto Body, got the holeshot in the
first moto but was passed by Justin, who went on to take the win.
Lyons is an up-and-coming rider who spent the winter competing
in arenacross; he plans on riding in a Pro class later this year.
After a two-year absence from the Collegeboy (16-24) class,
Ryan Stanesu, riding an Action Motosports/Fencepro.com/Tag/
Motul/Moto Planet-backed Suzuki, captured first place in both
motos. Stanesu fell in the first turn in the second moto but was
able to work his way back into first place at the finish for the
overall win. If Stanesu continues to ride as he did in this class, we
will be soon be seeing him in the Pro classes.

several days of rain. but the March winds, sunshine and many
practice laps eventually dried out the track. Sunday's first moto of
the Dunlop Race Day saw the track in perfect condition, and there
was enough sunshine to make it a perfect day for motocross in the
beautiful rolling hills of Tennessee. The Dunlop Race Day made it
even better by awarding the winners of the Amateur classes a
Dunlop tire plus series points and trophies.
