Diaz Motorsports Barn Burner Winter Series
Round 7: Chowchilla Fairgrounds
Slate Chalks Up
a Victory

D
ound seven of the Diaz Motorspons Winter Barn Burner
"series was another night of full stables enjoying 21 main
events and two money races. The rain fell outside the barn
while the racing went on inside.
Luke Becker came from the second spot in the SOcc
Beginner class to take the win. Thomas Rush and Denver
Erickson followed.
The chase was on again in the SOcc Stock class. Morgan
Tomberlin and Trevor Hammond battled each other while
chasing Chase Hoffman to the finish. This one finished with
Hoffman winning, followed by Hammond and Tomberlin.
Evan Diaz led the other six riders in the 50cc Modified C
event to the finish, with Cody Fyfe and Trevor Beintker finishing
second and third.
Tomberlin finished first in the Youth Powder Puff class.
Dusty Nunes dusted theSOcc Modified A class, leading Kyle
Greener and Kevin Alcorn across the finish line. Nunes also
finished first in the 65cc event, and then he dusted the other
80cc riders. This little guy is always at the front of the pack of
these combined-class races.
Tulare Honda-sponsored Michael Avila was back this week
to put to good use the new skills he learned last week at
American Supercamps. Joe's TOWing's Justin Petz provided
competition for Avila, winning the heat race and getting the
holeshot in the main. However, Avila got past Petz on lap three
of the main for the win. Diaz Motorsports' Christian "Weasel"
Hickman finished third.
Hickman has really turned on the gas in this series. He got
the holeshot and victory in the Two-Stroke Open contest.
Petz had stiff competition from Rod Halstead in the 150cc
event, but Halstead lost a front wheel between turns three and
four, giving Petz an easy victory.
Slate Grocery and Deli's Garret Slate is another up-andcoming youngster. This young man, in his first season aboard a
250, was first off the line and led the seven 250cc A riders from
pole to pole. Smooth and calculating, Slate is a talented rider
with a lust for racing and speed.
Lined up in the Open A event on his 250, Slate shared the
front row with Bradley Spencer Jr., Brandon Bergen, Stevie
Bonsey, Jimmy Lewis and John Olmstead. Bonsey got the
holeshot and the win. Henry Wiles jumped into the second spot
on lap two, and Spencer maintained the third spot start to the
finish.
