Dia>: Motorsports Winter Barn Burner Series Chowchilla Fairgrounds Briar's Patch of Wins By KAREN GOULD CHOWCHILLA, CA, FEB. 12 th the weather warming up and only five races left in the 2005 Diaz Motorsports Winter Barn Burner Series, the competition is getting stiffer. Twenty main events included more than I 10 riders. As word spreads about this track, the steady (Jow of stars visiting it for a ride continues. This week, Henry Wiles. Peoria's 2004 TT winner, came out to have a ride and practice for Daytona at the Barn Burner. Visiting from Michigan. Wiles had a great time while earning a little cash in the 250cc-and-Up Money race. Getting by his W traveling buddy John Olmstead on the second lap, Wiles took the pack around the track to the finish. Behind him, Marshall Lapp and Mike Besemer battled hard for the third spot. The finishing order was Wiles, Olmstead and Besemer. Chris Canepa fell in the 250cc-and-Up Money race, but he rode with a vengeance in the Open A event. getting the holeshot off the line. Canepa and Wiles had each won their heat race, and they rode wheel to wheel throughout all 12 laps of this race. Behind them, Besemer was pushing Austin Helwig for third. Exiting turn three. HelWig wobbled and fell. At the finish, it was Canepa, Wiles, Besemer and Olmstead. Helwig finished the combined 250cc event first, followed by Rod Halstead and Brandi Monasmith. Each ofthem finished first in their respective A, Band C classes. Dusty Nunes and Bronson Bauman continued their ongOing battle in the 65cc class. Nunes easily won the heat race, but when it came to the main event, Bauman was the one to win. Cole Crowley, another rider new to Chowchilla, finished third. Chase Hoffman and the Tomberlins, Morgan and Gavin, continued their battle in the 50cc Stock class. Coming from fourth to win the heat race, Hoffman got the lead and the win in the main. Morgan and Gavin crashed in turn, three giving Monte Valladao the chance to finish second. Trevor Beintker was third. Steve Hill and Steve Hall finished the Vet A first and second, with Lapp in the third spot. Cody Bergen was first off the Hne and first to the finish in both the Vintage C and Open C events. <:.- @V ~ ~"!.'- Dillon Allen got the Open B holeshot. Looking for the opportunity to pass him, Larry Clover stayed with him throughout the first nine laps of the main. On the 10th and final lap, Clover got the opening he sought coming out of tum four for the win. Briar Bauman continued his streak of weekly victories with wins in the Bscc A, 100cc Modified A, IsOcc A, Four-Stroke Open. 85cc Youth Money and 100cc Youth Money classes.
