Sean Black (90) gat a lightning-quick start in the first Farmula Extreme race, leading eventual winner Leigh Crawford (10) and Craig Crawfard (31), as the CMRRA attacked the Grange Motar Circuit. Coming down to the checkers, Black was able to hold off Leigh for the win, with Craig ahead of Ducut for third. Garner came into the picture on the last lap, making a failed attempt to grab fourth. Race two looked like race one at the start, but by the end of the lap two, Garner had joined the mix, moving into second, behind Black. Making short work of Black, Garner quickly began stretching out his lead. As in race one, Black now had his hands full defending his position from a very aggressive Leigh Crawford. On the penultimate lap, Leigh made his pass stick, getting around Black for second. Garner may have won the race, but Leigh was solid gold, taking the overall and denying Garner his perfect weekend. Black was impressive in second. Garner was a well-earned third, and Craig Crawford wrapped up fourth. RESULTS BEG STK: I. Kirby Smith: 2. Ricky Wells: 3. Tyler Archuleta; 4. Patrick McCord; 5. ESE Holeshot Series Round 2: 3 Palms Extreme Sports Park Vann Jumps Over the Big Dawg By Doc MELLOY CONROE, lX, FEB. 6 A II of the real action was in the Mini classes /"""\at the second round of the Holeshot Series, as Honda of Houston's Vann Martin outdueled Highlands Kawasaki's Dawson "The Big Dawg" Draycott in the 85cc (7-1 I) class, while Louisiana native Jeremy Domingue checked out on the 85cc (12-13) class. Martin and Draycott came back and did it again in the Junior Supermini class, with the results being the same, as Martin was able to sweep all four motos over a game Draycott. Domingue repeated his romp in the Senior Supermini class, giving the Honda pilot two class wins as well. The Experts got things going, with Kawasaki rider Rob Locke (I-I) taking the overall win over "Bad Brad" Mikolas (2-2) in the 125cc c1ass_ The two front-runners put on quite a show as they battled again in the 250cc Expert class, with Locke (2-1) once again taking the overall over Mikolas (1-2). Shaun Martin, Vann's father, was also a big winner on the day, topping both the Over 25 Expert and Over 30 Expert classes, giving the Martin family a total of four class wins. Dave Martin (2-1) claimed the overall win in the Over 40 Amateur class, over Honda vet Dan "The Man" Scheffler (1-2). However, the best action of the day came in the mini classes, where Vann hooked up with 58 JM Racing's Draycott for four exciting motos in the 8Scc Junior classes. In the first moto of the 85cc (7-1 I) class, Vann took the holeshot and never looked back. In the second moto, it was the Big Dawg who grabbed the holeshot, and he held off the relentless Vann for a couple of laps. It was the finish line jump that got Draycott, as he was not clearing the jump, while Vann was. Vann used this to his advantage, taking the lead by literally jumping over Draycott. Once in the lead, the young Honda pilot was able to check out for the win. Honda of Lafayette's Domingue clearly had the speed in the 85cc (12-13) class, as he won easily in both motos. His Moto-XReport.com teammate and longtime nemesis, Stubbs Cycles' Chase Spears, checked out in both motos of the 85cc (14-15) class. Jacob Turbyfill (3-3) grabbed the final podium spot in the 7-1 I class, while Nick Abey (2-2) and Corey Glenn (4-4) joined Spears on the podium in the 14-15 class. Andy Pizzitola was an easy winner in the 65cc (10-1 I) and Open classes, while Brennan Beckett picked up a couple of seconds, in the 65cc (7-9) and Open classes. RESULTS 51 (4-6) STK: I. Interstate 1S MX Series Round 2: Sandy Valley Motocross mini cycle to turn two tabletops into one huge double, a jump Lhat only a few of the top bigbike riders were doing. Fussell nailed the opening-mota holeshot, ahead of Casey Mello and Robert Gold, and rolled to an easy win from there. Mello finished a solid second. Gold surprised everyone with the mota-two holeshot, but Fussell ripped into the lead after the first corner. Mello stormed into second after the tabletop. Fussell cruised to another huge win to earn the 85cc (12-13) title, while Mello's consistent seconds bested Gold for the silver. In the 85cc (7-11) ranks, Matthew Lissor's double-moto victories kept him ahead of Otto Craig and Kyle O'Brien in the final tally. Geib Grabs the Goldl By DICK GOODWIN SANDY VAUEY, NV, FEB. 6 T he Las Vegas area's newest motocross track, Sandy Valley, staged its second-ever race at the facility on February 6. Partnered with Mesquite Moto-X Park, Sandy Valley Motocross was hosting the final race of the Interstate 15 MX Series. The track. a supercross-type layout with some of the "wild" taken out to make racing fun for everyone, drew a most respectable turnout. The day's best racing was undoubtedly in the combined 2S0cc race. Lever MX Racing's 250cc Pro rider Chad Geib combined fast racing with gritty determination to come out on top of two close contests with his fellow Lever Pro Jeff Page. Geib exploded out of the gate, leading ultrafast Intermediate rider Brian Fowler and Page. Before Geib could break away. Page made a quick move, sweeping into second in the first corner. Fowler stayed close in third. As the race progressed, Geib and Page gradually pulled away from the pack. The top two stayed locked together for the entire race, flashing across the finish line in a quick one-two. First blood went to Geib. Fowler led first-placed Junior Brock Bryant across the line. Fowler stuffed the field, leading Geib and Bryant, as moto two cranked up. Geib chased Fowler for most of the first lap before striking for the lead in the back corner. Page made his move a few turns later, claiming second. Knowing a win would clinch the overall, Page picked up the pace and passed Geib late in the race. Geib returned the favor, and then Page passed again. Geib retaliated once more, and the race went down to the wire, with Geib finally taking the win - and the overall 2S0cc Pro crown. Bryant topped Jess Bates and Eddie Aguilar in the Junior division. Another spectacular racer (though facing less competition) was Zachary Fussell, competing in the 85cc (12-13) class. Fussell, a National-caliber talent, turned it on at the Sandy Valley event. He was the only one on a RESULTS PfW BEG: I. Tanner Hicks; 2. Zach Hooley; 3. Skyler Opeka. P/W SO STK: I.
