Lamay Lets Loose!

ANZA, CA, FEB. 13
en Lamay made Winning look easy as he
collected three overall wins at the Cahuilla
Creek Motocross Track during round three of
the AC Racing/West Coast Motorsports/No
Wimps-sponsored California Gold Cup
Motocross Series. Lamay flew his Suzukis to
victories in the 12scc Two-Stroke Non-Pro,
2s0cc Four-Stroke Open Non-Pro and Schoolboy classes.
KTM-mounted Anthony Charette kept
Lamay at bay for the first couple of laps of 12scc
Two-Stroke racing before Lamay made the pass
and inched away for the win. Lamay and
Charette diced it out at the front of the field in
mota two, with identical results. Travis Bemis
got to the checkers in third in both motos,
ahead of Kris Armbrister and Anthony Cicalese.
Local hotshot Travis Freistat handed Lamay
his only runner-up finish on the day, as he
outran him in the opening Schoolboy mota.
Freistat jumped out to an early second-moto
lead, but Lamay dropped him to second place
for good by lap two. Buck Ford worked his
way up into 5-3 finishes for the third-place
trophy, over the 4-4 score of Mark Samuels
and the 7-5 tally of Dalton Baillie.
Freddy Sanchez absconded with the
holeshot in the first 2s0cc Four-Stroke Open
Non-Pro contest and made Lamay work for
the win. Lamay won the drag race up Cahuilla's
long start straight in mota two and continued
on uncontested for a clean sweep of the class.
Sanchez was again second, with Freistat (3-4)
claiming third, over Shawn Higham (5-5) and
Ford (10-3).
Dean Wilson and Tyler Sjoberg were nearly
inseparable while running at the front of the
pack in more than one class. Yamaha-mounted
Wilson kept Sjoberg in his roost to capture
B
overall wins in both the 85cc (12-13) and 85cc
Open events. Sjoberg returned with a
vengeance to go I-I in the Superminis aboard
his Suzuki, while Wilson had to settle for a pair
of close seconds.
Mike Victorian split moto wins with
Chaisson Cozzens for overall honors in 65cc
(6-8) action, with James Wilcox posting 2-4
finishes for third. Victorian picked up his
second class win of the day in the Pee Wee
(7-8) wars after first-moto winner Funky Jones
encountered problems and couldn't make the
start of moto two. Brando'" Outcault won the
second mota, but it was the 3-2 performance
of Victorian that earned the tallest trophy.
Zachary Cornman's 2-3 score edged out the
5-1 finishes of Outcault for second overall.
Jack Carpenter lined his pockets with a iillie
extra spending cash after runaway wins in both
the I25cc and 2s0cc Pro classes. His 3-2 rides
gave be Wray second in the 250s, over the 2-3
tally of Nich Baugh. Baugh returned to go 2-3
for second-place payback in the 1255, over the
5-2 of Wray and 3-4 of Brandon Hiner.
