moving on while the rest had to race again. This is where
arena cross becomes a challenge for many racers: It almost
never occurs during the remainder of the season that because
so many riders enter a class, semifinals need to be held. Racers
put their hearts on the line each year, as making it to the main
event becomes the goal of many beginners.
In the 12Scc C main event, Honda jockey Joey Olson took
the holeshot. Following close behind were Troy Boles and
Derek Anderson. Olson and Boles went head to head in the
whoops, but Boles got the best of Olson in the turn before the
rhythm section. As the first lap ended, Anderson saw his chance
to move up, and he began challenging for second. The Kawasaki
rider was not going to give up, challenging Boles for the
number-one spot during the second lap, and he passed Boles
right before the Catapult. The riders kept their positions, riding
strong, and at the finish it was Anderson, Boles and Olson.
The 85cc (7.11) race was just as exciting and full of action.
The race began with Gregory Gehrer from Wichita, Kansas,
taking the holeshot. He was followed by Justin Bogle, who came
all the way from Cushing, Oklahoma. Connor Olson, a local
Suzuki rider, came out of the gate in third. The Catapult gave
some of the riders some trouble on the first lap: Olson and four
other riders were taken out of the race. This allowed another
local rider, Vernon O'Shea, to take the third spot. During the
second lap, Bogle began challenging Gehrer for first place, and
he passed the leader in a turn folloWing the whoops section.
The racers kept their pOSitions to the end, with O'Shea giving
Gehrer a run for his money but ultimately taking third.
Overall, the Denver Arenacross was a great start to the
RMXA season, full of excitement and heart.
