First-time racer Catlin DeRocher tasted a sweet personal victory during the Pee Wee B race by conquering the dangerous whoops in the Swiftel Center in Brookings, South Dakota. Five-year old Catlin DeRocher showed up at the Swiftel Center for her racing debut aboard her Honda CRFSO. Lining up for her heat race, she eyed the competition, then cranked on the throttle as the gate dropped. Heading to the first turn, DeRocher gave a quick glance over at one of her competitors, then rounded the corner and dived into the whoop section. Unfortunately, she crashed and took the end of a handlebar to the throat: the first race, the first whoops victim. Nick Stroeher made it through the whoops and took the win, in fronc of Corbin Olson and Jaden Griese. DeRocher returned for the main event, determined to defeat the whoops. Stroeher took the holes hot, in from of Cole Schoenrock and Olson. DeRocher worked her way through the whoops, to the delight of the crowd. She stopped after making it through the next turn, knowing she'd conquered the whoops, but she would wait to take on the rhythm section next time. Stroeher went on to lap the field up to fifth place and take the win, with Schoenrock and Griese rounding out the podium. The 12Scc A class proved that even the best riders could fall victim to the whoops. When the gate dropped, Luke Rice, Travis Hodges, Ryan Dittus and Kyle McCutcheon battled for the lead. Hodges passed Rice to take the point but then crashed in the whoops, allowing Rice to reclaim the top spot, though Dittus was gaining fast. Hodges remounted and stormed back (0 catch Rice just before the finish-line jump and retake the lead. Hodges then went down again a lap later, dropping to seventh. Rice would pay a bigger price after regaining the top spot, as he came up short on a jump and rode the front tire more than 20 feet before his Honda threw him over the bars, pile-driVing him into the face of the triple. The race was stopped, as Rice had to be loaded onto a stretcher. McCutcheon was credited with the win. During the next race, it was announced that Rice had jumped out of the ambulance and returned to see if his bike was in any condition to race. Rice did return for the 125cc A final, but it was Hodges who conquered the whoops and took the win, with Dittus, McCutcheon, Kelley Kurtz and Jesse Peterson rounding out the top five. By the end of the night, all the racers knew that the only way to get to the winners' circle was a qUick trip through the whoops. ff/PEICHO..$'.£CCCOA7 OFFICIAL WEBSITE OF SUPERCROSS live Webcasts, Ticket Info &Much More.
