The last-chance qualifier for the main final lined up with Barlow, Uttle, Fafard on the (ront row, and Ferrow. Courtney and Wayne Jones on the back row. That was also the finishing order in the six-man. four-lap race. With Barlow, Little and Fafard joining Olsson, Phelps and David Meldrum, the stage was set for the grand finale. Olsson gated with Phelps, and those two led Barlow and Little, who both muscled out Meldrum on the first lap. After Barlow clipped Phelps on lap three, Olsson pulled a gap on Phelps to take the win over six laps. Little, on a spluttering machine, failed to capitalize on Barlow's mistake, leaving him to fend 0(( Meldrum for fourth spot. Fafard remained sixth throughout the race. "Tonight's event was simply superb," XIIR promoter Barlow said. ''I'm sure we've sent the people of Bossier City home happy. I have to apologize for the slight delay in the start and thank the fans for their patience; we were overwhelmed with the last-minute ticket sales. I advise ice fans to book early for this weekend's two-city spectacular. I don't how it can get much better than this; the racing was immense. but we have probably SIX racers who can win the AMA title, and they are all up for it. It's going to be great!"
