Virginia Championship Hare Scrambles Series Round 15: Pipsico 100 Greer Brothers Bottle Up Pipsico Victory By HEATHER GREER SURRY, VA, NOV. 7 the Pipsico 100. Yamaha rider Jason Greer was the first AA rider to hit the woods, with Honda rider Travis Jones, Suzuki rider David White and Yamaha rider George Greer A t right on his tail. KTM rider Robby Norwood and Honda rider Chance Baker brought up the rear after tangling bars at the start. Jason's pace slowed when his brakes started heating up. opening the door for White. George and Norwood [0 pass. White took the lead going into lap two, but soon a tight section of trees brought him to an abrupt stop. George found a more open line and took the lead, with Norwood and Jason right behind him. Norwood paused for a gas stop. and White slid by to chase the Greers. As the brothers charged into the fourth lap, they came to a section where the trail split, with a main line and an alternate line. George took the main line, and Jason took the alternate, which was just enough to put a front wheel ahead of his brother. On the white-flag lap, the two were running fender to fender when George went inside Jason during a straight section, edging Jason out going into the tight trail. George finished with the overall win; Jason was right behind him for the AA-c1ass win. "I feel sorry for those guys that left before the main race," said one spectator. "That was one of the most exciting races of the year!" White came in a minute behind Jason to score third overall and enough points to win the AA-c!ass championship - his last championship win was in 1984, 20 years ago! Norwood's debut in the AA class netted him fourth overall, 20 seconds behind White. In the 200cc A class, KTM rider Jason Hedrick took the holeshot but slid into a line that took him far down on an off-camber tum, and KTM rider Josh Gray took a higher line to George Greer (5) comes into the finish with his brother Jason right behind him at the Pipsico 100 in Surry, Virginia. 82 slip by. While Gray worked on stretching out his lead, KTM rider Ray Faddis got by Hedrick in a fast line in the woods. Gray came through for the win more than three minutes ahead of Faddis. Hedrick held on to third. In the Four-Stroke A class, Suzuki rider Chad Woods was first into the woods but succumbed to bike troubles on lap two. KTM rider Brandon Nero took the lead and held on to it for the win. Yamaha rider Andrew Williams took second. KTM rider Ted Marriner and Husqvarna rider Jason Balonis battled for third; when Balonis crashed on a series of roots, Marriner took a line around to grab third. Honda rider Heather Whaley, the season's dominant rider in the Junior Mini Women's class, passed Yamaha rider Lori Dusky on lap two for the lead, showing everyone that she'd learned a lot about fast riding while racing in the Horizon races. Dusky came in a few seconds behind Whaley for second. Kawasaki rider Heather Greer worked her way up from a mid pack start to take third. RESUtTS O/A: George Greer (Yam). AA:. I.
