is my absolute favorite race every year, and this was the best of the three I've anended. The traction was great and the layout and trail conditions were amazing." Most riders echoed that feeling. Mother Nature was very cooperative, helping the Red River Dirt Riders to put on an absolutely outstanding enduro. Through the deep sand along the river, over freshly mowed grasstrack. and along miles of tight, rocky single-track in the infamous Bill's Woods. there was something to test everyone. A little rain the week prior to the event provided plentiful traction and even a few mudholes. Some bike-swallowing ruts developed as the day wore on. Small Wheel rider Joshua Dailey traveled 850 miles from Aurora, Colorado, only to have a tree root engulf his rear wheel. The minutes lost waiting for help were of little consequence, as he eventually fouled a plug and wound up with a DNE "I still really liked the course." Dailey said. Trail boss Bill Pearson and the Red River Dirt Riders did an outstanding job finding the help and time required to pm together a challenging and creative course. one that displayed the best of the variety that Texas offers. "We reaJly appreciate that people drove hundreds of miles to ride our event," said Pearson. "This is an indicator of the faith they put in our ability to host a good event." The term "enduro of the year" was heard from more than a few satisfied riders, suggesting that their faith was well-placed. Senior A rider John Blythe and his son Ian traveled from Colorado to win their respective classes. Many other RMEC/TSCEC riders made the long haul to try this event, as this was its first year on the High Plains Circuit calendar. Texans Cody and Blake Ross topped the Open C and 2S0cc C classes, while Blackjack riders held their own in many classes: Bryan Vaughan won 200cc A, Robbie Johnson won 2S0cc A, Chuck Waro won 2S0cc B, and Barry Stanley won 200cc C Novice. "I want to thank Moose Racing, Renthal, Fastway and GPR for their support," Cole said. "My KTM worked great in Bill's Woods." Their wins keep the Kirkpatricks, Rosses and Blythes at the top of their respective High Plains classes for the season, with two events to go. Cole finished the season second in Sabine, while his dad overalled the Age division and Cameron topped his class. Palmdale ~30 RESULTS O/A: Cole Kirkpatrick (AA) (KTM). AA: I. Cody Potts (Kaw); 2.
