PHOTO BY ED HEOOENlMM PRO FOTO Utah Sport Riders Association Thanksgiving Classic MX Race Day I: Mesquite Moto-X Park Hall Marks a Win By DICK GOODWIN MESQUITE, NV, NOV. 26 he Utah Sport Riders Association invaded Mesquite, Nevada, for its annual Thanksgiving Classic MX event - a rare Friday/Saturday race-day pairing. With a record-breaking T 1400-plus entries over the two days, this "local" contest ranks just below the big National Amateur races in attendance and interest. Friday's race action boasted 39 classes and lots of full gates. Levii Hall was certainly one of the standouts, winning the 6Scc (9-11), 6Scc Open, 85cc (7-1 I) and Supermini classes - and ascc finishing second in the Open division. In Supermini action, Hall was first off the gate, only to be immediately passed by Prince Kapahulehua. Hall struck right back. retaking the lead a couple of turns later. Dacoda Sorochuk joined the lead group, while Landon Powell, Kyle Price and Casey Schriock were in a wild scramble for fourth. Sorochuk was battling Kapahulehua ferociously for second, giving Hall a little breathing room to open up a lead. Hall romped home with the win, and Sorochuk made a last-lap pass to edge Kapahulehua for second. Powell led Schriock and Price home in fourth. Hall hammered the field again as the second half cranked up. Kapahulehua and Powell were just inches behind. Sorochuk was raging through the pack, blasting past Powell on the big downhill to take over third. Hall continued out in front, but not with a big lead this time, as Kapahulehua was all over him. Hall and Kapahulehua went mano a mano way out in front, with Hall just edging Kapahulehua for the win - and the overall Supermini crown. Sorochuk finished a loneiy third for third Arceneaux showed the first moto was no fluke by stealing the win again from some fast riders in mota two. Phillips went down in the 12·15 class, allowing Arceneaux to lead both classes. Dodd (3-3) took second overall. while Jude Patterson (4-4) took third. The 85cc Open contest was a rematch of some of these Mini speedsters, and Phillips wasted no time taking the lead. Barr held off Arceneaux for second. Nicholas Fisher led Dylan Van Way for fourth. followed by Moss, Dodd and Patterson. By lap three. Fisher had climbed into second. But Phillips kept all challengers at bay for another win. Van Way edged out Barr right at the checkers for third, and Arceneaux rounded out the top five. Moto two was a repeat, with Phillips winning the overall, followed by Fisher (2-2), Barr (4-4), and Van Way (3-S). In the first 12Scc Money moto, Chad Kennedy grabbed the early lead and grew more and more comfortable on his Champion Cycle KTM. Behind him were fellow Champion Cycle KTM riders Chad McNemar and Adam Hancock. Hancock moved up into second, but nobody was able to match Kennedy's speed all day. Kennedy swept the class for the overall. 70 overall. leading Powell and Schriock in the final standings. Another rider who brought his "A game" to the big dance was Cameron Rodriguez, as he topped 18 other contenders to snare the prestigious 125cc Intermediate crown. Jared Partridge ripped off the line to lead the snarling pack when the gate dropped. Rodriguez and Andrew Brisk were giving chase. Partridge quickly jumped out to a lead but, just when it looked like he was golden for round one, his bike suffered a major meltdown - gifting the lead to Rodriguez, who made the most of it, gradually pushing his advantage to mega proportions. The easy win went to Rodriguez, while Tony Esposito came on strong in the late stages to grab second. Brisk edged Travis Dunivent for third. Esposito unleashed the ponies in the second half, leading Rodriguez, Dunivent and the rest out onto the course. Esposito and Rodriguez opened it up, with a pass.and-repass scenario that earned them a lead on the rest of the field. By the final lap, Rodriguez had broken free for his second straigtlt win - and the overall 125cc Intermediate title - leaVing Esposito to hold off a fast·c1osing Dunivent. Brisk and Eric Barlow rounded out the top fIVe overall. eN MESQUITE MOTO-X PARK MESQUITE, NEVADA RESULTS: NOVEMBER 26, 2004 (DAY 1) P/W PP: I. Nikell Tamilos (Suz); 2. Torte Williamson (Suz); 3. Round r: Valley Branch Retreat Bechard Leads Advance at Retreat By KURT BAUER NASHVILLE, IN, NOV. 7 T he opening round of the Trials Inc. was held in the beautiful hills of Nashville. Indiana, on November 7. The event marked the second consecutive year this venue, Valley Branch Retreat, has hosted the event. Cold temperatures the night before the event made for some great camping for those who chose to avail themselves of Valley Branch's cabins or maybe not·so·great camping for those who had to use tents. By Sunday morning, the 60 riders who had entered to ride were greeted with sunshine and temperatures warming up into the 60s by midafternoon - not bad for November in Indiana. Jim Zuroske had laid out I I sections to be ridden four times in five hours. At 10:45,
