PHOTO BY CHUCK BAll Xtremeworld Arenacross Series Round 2: Claremore Expo Center Marley Rattles Their Chains! By CHUCK BAU CLAREMORE, OK, NOV. 20·21 T ry as they might, the cold, gray clouds couldn't quite dump raindrops inside the Claremore Expo Center, site of the second round of the Xtremeworld Arenacross Series. When the gate dropped for first 125cc Pro moto, the first corner belonged to Robbie Smith. Not one to wait around, Chad Cook made his way past and immediately put his head down and began to get away. Smith and Johnny Marley began making a push toward the front. Once they got past Cook, Marley made a move for the lead, with Smith in tow. A lap later, things went bad for Smith in a big way: After "manualing" his way through the first half of a rhythm section, Smith tried "scrubbing" his way out over the last double; this was bad, because he dug his footpeg deep into the face of the takeoff, and his VZ250F flicked him off violently. Marley took the victory ahead of Cook and Green. The second moto was a lesson in holeshots, as Green came right out of the gate and through the first corner wide open and cleared the giant quad jump while everyone else rolled the section. Marley, however, used his speed and a vast amount of talent and experience to reel in the lightning-quick Green and take over the lead. Cook finished the moto behind Green and double-moto winner Marley. Green again showed his abilities in the 250cc Pro contest, as he pulled a holes hot just ahead of jerad Dearmon and Cook. Meanwhile, Smith was feeling left behind and decided to take off toward the front and put some pressure on Green. However, Smith ran out of time, and Green took the win ahead of 5mith and KTM-mounted Jacob Martin. The second 250cc moto blazed away, and again it was Green out front, with Martin and Pearson did an instant replay in the 505cc class, with 450cc winner Ladd waiting for a mistake that never came. Pearson ran on a rail and led Ladd. Furlong, Snyder and Jason to the flag. Pearson continued his run by taking the lead in the Open Pro TT and holding off Snyder for the win. Snyder finally found the needed holeshot in the 505cc Pro TT and kept Pearson and Ladd at bay to take the win. Snyder then did likewise in the 450cc IT; also taking a close win over the fast-closing Shepherd and Brian Hopper. Dan Reichert led the '70s 5ingles final, but a near-highside sent him backward through the field. Charlie Southgate took the point and held on for the win, over Randy Blackwell. jeremy Anderson rode a hard race, coming from the penalty stripe and passing Bill GoodWin, Ronny Geissert, Reichert and Ron Anderson to finish third. Southgate later returned to double up by also taking the Vet-class win. Dallas Meyer was a multiple class winner on 68 Smith in tow. This time, Smith turned up the wick aboard his VZ450F and quickly made it past Martin and then set out after Green. Once Smith got to Green, he snatched the lead and left Green to deal with Martin, but Green held his ground and finished the moto behind Smith and just ahead of Martin. As riders began filling the gate for the aJlimportant $3000 Clash For Cash, a lot of people were eying the red Honda 250F jockeyed by Marley. Green once again stuck his Honda out front early and set the pace. Not one to wait around, Marley put a pass on Green and effectively ended the race. While riders were fighting for poSitions all over the track, it was all Marley up front. When the checkers flew, Marley took the win, followed by Green and Martin. "The track was pretty good - a lot bigger than it was last year," Marley noted. "It was real fast, too - not a lot of ruts, but ~ was good. These guys are fast here, and I'm glad I rode my best" eN CLAREMORE Expo CENTER ClAREMORE, OKLAHOMA RESULTS: NOVEMBER 20·21, (ROUND 2) 2004 Saturday P/W OlL-INI: I. Kane Leach (Hon): 2.
