Liquid Performance Grand Championship Series Round II: Lake Sugar Tree Bryant Haunts 'em on Halloweenl BY GREG SUMNER AXTON, VA, OCT. 31 H allowee n comes but once a year. This year. all the ghosts and goblins came to Lake Sugar Tree fo r round I I of the Liquid Perfo rmance Grand Champion ship Series - and a few Halloween haunts. More than 280 riders came to compete . When the gate dr opped fo r the first 2SOcc A mo to , Total Cont ro l Suspension/Jim Neese Ride r Developme nt/Serious Raceware/Honda rider C had Newton snagged the holes hot . William Bryant and Sco tt ie Shipley gave chase. Davis charged but ran out of time to catch Bryant . At the line, it was Bryant. Davis. Newton. Shipley and Allen Alford. In mot o two , Bry ant too k th e point position , follow ed by Shipley. Newto n and Dean Day. Davis got a bad sta rt but was on a tear, work ing his way into third by passing Newton at the end of the first lap. Shipley was kee ping Bryant honest in first. Just before t he uphill ste p-up, Davis we nt down . giving Newto n third . Alford, Day an d Travis West all passed Davis. O n lap four. Bryant got a litt le breathi ng ro om, as Ship ley and Newto n banged bars fo r second . Davis also caugh t the two. Shipley held fpt~ his ow n, as Davis passed Ne wton beh ind th e Dam. On lap seven, Davis was all over Shipley. Davis powered through the back-side whoops and passe d Shipley. but Shipley came back over the Eve l Knievel Sky Jump. Then Davis made the pass stick be hind the Dam . At the chec ke rs. it was Bryant going away. ove r Davis. Shipley, Newton and Day. In I25cc A action . Bryant took the holeshot and neve r looked ,detv,.e,~ ~ back, taking both mo tos uncontested and leaving everyone else to batt le for second . In the first outing. the battle was between Davis and Chase Pe rry. w ho w ent bac k and fo rt h for three laps unt il Blue Ridge Powersports/D.Cup Cycles/Uquid Performance! was trying to ho ld off Alford fo r fifth . Perry settled fo r sixth. In the second sta nza, Bryant was gone! Perry ran secon d, negotiati ng t he bac k-side w hoops and t he Eve l Knieve l Sky Jump, Davis went to the inside of Perry and simply outpowered him to take second. On lap three, Fitzwate r used t he sam e move to take ove r fo urth from Pfeiffe r.
