Afte r a slow sta r t , G ar r a ha n quick ly p ushed h is Maxxis/Shift/FMF-backed KTM to the fro nt of the pack to take his third victo ry o f the year in the AMA District 36-sanet io ned Moose Western Regional Cross Co unt ry Series. W ith r a in just days b e fo r e t he event , con ditions were very good, w ith the exception of a few muddy sec tions and the normal Prairie C ity roc ks. T he Dirt Diggers North Motorcycle C lub put together an inte resting IO·mile loo p th at inc o r po r at e d a c ouple of t he a rea's motocros s tra cks into th e co urse . More than 200 r iders lined up for the 8 a.rn. start of th e N B ra ce, an d w he n the gunshot so unded, it wasn't Garrah an w ho was off and running; ge tting off to quick starts were KTM jockeys Brian Sperle and series poin ts leader jo rdan Brandt . Spe rle and Bra ndt led the pac k around, but Garrahan quickly moved through the pack and was runn ing fo urt h after lap one. Mechanical failure s and crashes played a big part in th e event, with many o f the top riders ge tting knocked o ut early o n. Bra ndt and KTM jo ckey Bryce Olse n would both have to call it q uits before finishing two laps. Garrahan kep t charging and was in th e lead be fo re halfway. After m o ving o ut fr o nt , he neve r loo ked bac k and w ent o n to ta ke th e win by more than fo ur minute s. W it h Gar ra han gone, t he battle w as fo r second. Spe rle held the number-two spot for m uch o f th e race, but he fell back two spo ts afte r having a little bit of trouble on the fourt h lap , ge tting stuck in a mud pit. The two wh o got A.J. L uza n was a triple threat in a Madera, California: He won the 6Scc (9-11) Open and X classes, along with the 85cc (5-11) Open division at round six of the CMA Anaheim Express MX Series. 116 by him were Kawasak i-mo unted Just in Soule and Honda ride r Greg Gh ione . Both riders were riding close together. but when the duo came thro ugh the home check to start the last lap, Ghio ne was just a few seconds beh ind Soule. O n the last lap, So ule d ropped o ut of the race w ith a mechanical probl em. leaving the Honda Peninsula o f Sunnyvale/Moose/ Faultline Suspe nslon -spo nso re d Gh io ne t o ta ke t he second spot . Ghione 's consistent ride helped him to finish just a sho rt distance ahead of Sperle. After re covering fr om his slow fourt h lap , the i.m oto/Fo x/Sc o t t Goggles -backed Sperle battled back and finished strong in th ird. T he only oth er rider finishing six laps was Y aha-mo unted Jo hn Wea r, w ho rode strong am all race and finished abo ut half a mi nute out of thir d. Sou le to ok fifth by comp leting five laps faster than any other rider. Finishing in sixth and seventh w ere Kawasa ki riders Alex Gragg and Mike Har bon . Th e 85cc Novices, for exam ple, had a w hale o f a time de cided th eir overa ll finishing o rder. Th e main trio of players w ere Ryan Worth, Blake Gimbarti and Garrett Wee ks. In th e second race , Worth had a chance to sea l th e deal but go t dera iled and fell to fou rt h. Tha t bas ically left Gimbarti and We e ks to fight for th e o vera ll. The former too k t he rno to win and , by w ay of his 2- 1 finishes , t he overall. We eks (3- 2) took se co nd overall, followed by Worth and jeffrey Bie r.
