SANDERSON BINGHAMTON, NY, OCT. 31 hil Nicoletti haunted the 125cc Amateur competition into submission and topped the pod ium at the sixth annual Halloween Classic at the beautiful Broome-Tioga Sports Center in Binghamton, New Vork, on the last day of Oc tober. This was the final race of the season for the Broo me-T ioga faci lity. This annua l event, hosted by Hur d t-totors ports. features a Halloween party on Saturday night. complete w ith a best-costume contest fo r the kids and trick-or-treating in the pit area. Just few e r than 50 0 riders came out for the season finale at th is fast and technical racecourse. Bingham ton Ho nda-sponso red Honda thumper pilot Chris Cheney got a huge holeshot in the o pening 12Scc Amateur moto. Cheney was bas ically alone w hen he ro unded the sw itch back first turn , as the nearest rider was a le ast five bikelengths back, Cheney knew how great a start he' d gotten when he came around to comple te the first lap wi th a whopp ing IO-seco nd advantage and no threat in sight. Nicoletti, w ho just graduated from the Mini ranks earlier this year, had a firm grasp on second place at the end of lap one, but he co uld not possibly hope to catc h Chen ey, as his lead was just too much for Nico lett i, even tho ugh Nicoletti still had th ree laps to try to catch t he leader. Dan Za browski was a solid third. Th e to p three never changed all the way to the chec ke rs, thoug h Nicoletti d id reduce C heney's lead to o nly five secon ds at the checkered flag. Nicoletti had to settle for r un ner- up. Zabrows ki, Mike Pe rcy and Kyle Sha m pine rounded out the to p five . N icoletti, perhaps a little pissed off that he hadn' t won the first o uting, nailed the final-mot a holeshot and never looked back. Pe rcy, Che ney, Corey Shipos and Jimmy Ide were tra iling him off the start. Nicoletti's front tire washed out in a co m er ne ar the en d of th e firs t lap , putting him on th e ground . C he ney inhe rited the lead , and Percy and Shipos moved to seco nd and third , respectively. N icoletti re mou nted in fourth, and Ide held fifth. With in half a lap, Nico letti had already regained secon d place and was pu tting pressure o n C he ney fo r t he le ad . N icoletti made the pass on Cheney fo r the lead on lap th ree, and if he could hold o n to it for a little more tha n a lap, w ho wou ld have the mota win and the overall. Nicoletti did just P that. and his margin of vict ory was a w hopping 10 second s, to boot, Cheney, Percy, Daniel Lewa ndow ski and Shipos rounded ou t the top five. Nicoletti (2-1) to ok top honors.
