Cody Maness sett led in behind Co uto to run in A the second spot , ahead of Samm y YacQvelli, Kevin Vandermark and Jo nat han Higgins. Gillesp ie wa s just inside th e top 10 and was ting little time making his way toward the fro nt, By the completion of lap o ne. Couto and Maness still he ld down the top two pos itions, but Gilles pie was now dogging Y acove llifo r th ird. A lap later. Gillespie was aro und both Y acove lli and Maness and starting to chip away at Couto's lead. Gillespie closed to with in striking distan ce and the n got a break w he n Couto we nt down and had tr o ub le getting his RMZ to refire . The race was pretty mu ch in the bag fo r the Du nlo p/Excellbacked Gillespie , as he co ntinued o n unconteste d fo r the win . Higgins dropped back to seventh place nea r the midway point of the race before picking up the pace and charging back up into a second-place finish . Yacove lli was right in there for third at the che ckers. ahead of Kevin Bey, Ryan McAllister and C hris Pulliam. De rreck Murphy showed the re st of the 12Scc Intermed iates the qu ickest way around the Glen Helen facility as he made his way into the lead on the o pen ing circuit aboard his YZ250F and proceeded to check ou t with a commanding lead . Ryan Reina and Tanner Langham argued o ver the runner-up position during the early stages be fore Reina pulled awa y. Bre tt Harmon and Bo bby Langin Jr. spent much of the 45-minut e race batt ling over fourth, with Harmo n prevailing in the end. Just in Leed s overcame a fourth-place start to le ad the Vet Novice field by the 10-minute mar k of the race . Joe Casagrande mo unted a charge from ne xt to last off t he start, passing everyone but Leeds by th e midway point . Casagrande mad e his w ay around Leeds on the penultimate lap. o nly to go down in the sand wash o n the final circuit and hand the lead and the w in to Leed s. Tony Discu illo also sp e nt his 45 minut es of t rack t ime pa ssing people e n ro ute to a ha rd- fo ught third, ove r Da nie l Cauthorn and T im Wiedman. Chris Carrillo and Damion Tackett were insep arable at the front of the 6Scc (9 - 1 I) fie ld until Tackett deve loped bike problems and had to sto p for re pairs.
