The pre vious eve ning's rain and the ea rly morn ing drizzle left the tra ck a bit muddy, posin g a challe nge for eve n the mo st skilled ri d ers. Many parti cipa nts had arrived tw o days earlier to take advantage of Friday's pract ice and to compete in Saturday's Supercr oss eve nt , which was also scor e d fo r the Kent uck y Ch ampion ship po ints. After a challe nging. mud dy first ro und of moto, the trac k and the weathe r shaped up grea t for the second round of motos. Blountv ille . Te nnessee 's Ben jamin Den ton led the way on his Suzuki on the first lap of the firs t Sup er m ini moto, wi th Ho nd a ' s Luke Vonlinge r, Kawasaki pilot Trevor Cart mill and Suzuki-mounted James Kreitze r following. W ith the leading trio in a heated battle, Kreitze r, loca l tale nt Just in Vaughn and Matt Thompso n we re left to fight out the ir own battle just behind th e leader s. Vonlinger began to challenge Denton's T lead on t he seco nd lap . but his valiant effo rt was n't en ough to dent Den to n's dominatio n. De nton , Vonlinger and Ca rt mill finishe d w ith the top-t hree honors , respectively. As t he afte rnoo n sun bega n t o assist th e track crew in shaping up the trac k, moto two took off with Cartmill cart ing away the lead on lap one. Vonlinger and Vaughn voyaged be hind in seco nd and third. While Cartmill impressive ly se c ure d t he lead , Von linge r challe nged t he le a de r bu t ha d to set tle fo r se co nd plac e. Vaughn to pp ed o ff the po dium in th ird, and Denton claimed fourth.
